Outstanding! Snow on the mountain to accent and define, a bit of icing perhaps. Otherwise, perfection.

It's very quiet! I'd like to know by you if I should carry on with the monthly challenge and chat? If so, what topics?

Re: June's Oil gusher Challenge and Chat

Christel,

Oil Pastels is a quiet Forum. I see many on oil painting, acrylics and colored pencils but we few seem to be a small, if dedicated, special interest group.

I like the challenge very much but time and talent constrains me.

I started a lesson of Pat's and it is much more complicated than I realized but I may still do one of the challenges. It is the lesson that is taking my time, and the challenge is in the queue.

I'd love to see your wip of Pat's lesson?
I could stretch the challenge into next month.

Re: June's Oil gusher Challenge and Chat

It might be interesting to do a tutorial photo as part of the challenge. Post a photo and everyone work on it through the month.

That could be part of the regular posted photos which I also like very much.

I will try to post a picture of the lesson. I am about half done with it and would like some suggestions about how to handle the shadows. I have the thing tacked to a board. I will try to get a photo.

Where do you want it posted or do you want it sent privately? I am not certain the very fine line of the drawing will show but they might.

You can post it in a separate thread if you want to. There you'll get more feedback.

Re: June's Oil gusher Challenge and Chat

Christel

I notice an interest in tutorials, the "color along" type. I have friends who follow along with the colored pencil divas so including a tutorial in the challenge might be interesting. It would be work for whoever was the Tutor however.

Some one might post a reference and a line art drawing to be downloaded and colored, to learn the techniques of Oil Pastels without having to draw the art themselves.

I started Pat's lesson to learn the lesson. I also meant it as a tribute to Pat and to show there are many resources hidden in this forum.

I think I will post it here as WIP challenge, then post it as a separate finished thread when I complete it. I worked on it is a month already but the drawing was especially difficult for me.

Re: June's Oil gusher Challenge and Chat

This is from http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=418638

The Tutorial was done by Pat Isaac. My work is the first basic colors then I will go over, adding highlights and deeper shadows. I just started working on the plum so it is very crude so far.

If there is enough interest then I'll do the tutorial as suggested.
Great going so far on your painting. The checks are a lot of work. The shadows in the checks blues can go a bit greyer. I sometimes use a light pencil to grey the colors. Try it out first on a separate paper as graphite darkens very quickly.

Re: June's Oil gusher Challenge and Chat

Thanks Christel
This is a great tutorial for learning perspective, braids, and control of the Oil Pastels. Those checks are a handy practice for detail.

I will try the the graphite. I thought I might go back over the blues in the shadows with X? to even the shading. Graphite might just be the magic ingredient as any gray oil pastel will smear the squares. Tricky business.

Good Tutorial for learning control!
