Caricature

Here's a carving I did a few years ago out of basswood. I no longer have him but I recall him being about 6" long and 1.5" wide standing about 3" tall (plus tail). His legs are really bowed. He's mounted on a burl block. I painted him with watercolors (I think) ... I'm old .. I forget ... I hope my cats will forgive me ...

Re: Caricature

Thanks Doug .. he was fun to do. I was bored at my shop one day and started carving (an advantage to owning the place). The customers found it entertaining as well. I can't remember who I gave it to though ... I don't remember a lot of things ... sigh ...

Do you ever go into a room and then wonder what you're doing there? Sigh.

Nice work, Ken . . very nice . .

As for memory, unless you're as old as I am, it gets worse . . my memory these days is in a little, spiral notepad . .

Maybe this forum's name should be changed to:

Re: Caricature

This has become one of my favorite graphics ... I get a lot of mileage from it.

Re: Caricature

Ken, this is as cute as can be! I've finally had a bit of time to explore the new forum, and though I don't really work in wood, I've been so impressed by everything here.

I've known three different beagles, and you've captured the hound dog so well with this whimsical piece. Well done!

Re: Caricature

Thanks guys. He was fun to carve although getting his legs bowed was a bit tricky due to the grain .. but it was necessary for the caricature to work out right.

Re: Caricature

Thanks ... unfortunately I have no photos of the piece before it was painted and now its sold. When I did this one I slipped into "the zone" and lost all track of time. When that happens I don't think about taking progress photos and with small pieces I tend to stay zoned out till they're done. In the future I'll try to take more breaks so I can take some progress photos.

Re: Caricature

Your little Beagle is a very handsome piece, Ken. I’ve never owned a Beagle, but have had the Basset Hounds who’s only talents are sleeping and eating.

Re: Caricature

Thank you. These days I have cats who have the same talents as your Bassett with the possible exception that they ignore me most of the time - except of course, when it's time to eat.
