My bits

Robert the cats are well.

I might have got the real cat fur off. It is palm size and Australian white beech. Netsuke fascinates me.

Then roses ... background is silky oak/grevillia and flowers are all aracauria .. native hoop pine. There is sand shading and dying of the hoop pine. Thei e is olive green courtesy of a few bright nails in vinegar.

Turning away from that ... I used to like to do pots. the main pale spalted wood is called beenatree cos I cannot remember the name, and the dark woods are New Guinea striped ebony.

Then the ultra thin platter of sunken hoop pine. Pulled out of a dam on the Darling Downs. With holes.

Great to meet you all.

Re: My bits

Gorgeous stuff, Annie. I've always wanted to try my hand at turning ... unfortunately it requires a lathe and I haven't the space for one ... or the $$$. But perhaps one day ...

Re: My bits

We had a large lathe in our former shoppe, but the UHaul was full and we left it behind. I was always too afraid of it to ever use it.

Now that I'm older I wish we still had it. Time to put yet another addition on the workshop / studio so we can buy a few more tools, maybe a lathe for Christmas....

Is it difficult to turn a wood with so many holes?

I love your work

Better move fast if not, looks like it's going to be history soon.

These are so lovely! The cat, flowers and the bowl with pits and holes are my favorites, but the are all great.

Re: My bits

I love that cat! I'm just getting into whittling and wood carving and am looking for small ideas. I'm considering making some cats, just thinking about it. Mostly tiny ones n the end of hair sticks or on the top of walking sticks. I really like that one!

Re: My bits

Sheryl, the joy of the cat is that it has no legs. It was copied, with permission, by teachers teaching carving soap. Yep, whittling.
