Re: A Fist Full of Pencil Shavings

As always, I really appreciate your words of encouragement. Please don't be shy on any critique either... It's like gold dust to me. I tend to get stuck in a flow and don't pick up on mistakes that I will then continually make.

I was very pleased this morning to discover a sketchbook I thought I had lost, but found wedged down the back of my bedside table. I only filled a few pages, so I figured I'd post them and then continue to fill it with new scribbles. So now I have 5 graphite sketchbooks on the go (plus a cute little square one that I'm itching to attack). Oh well... better buy a few more pencils, haha.

I really like that tree stump. It's amazing. Actually all your drawings are, but I was particularly drawn to the stump for some reason.

Re: A Fist Full of Pencil Shavings

Thanks, Dr Debby. Maybe I was feeling a little peckish when I was sketching those, haha.

Re: A Fist Full of Pencil Shavings

Although I think your drawings are masterly , there is a sense of darkness and gloom about them which disturbs me. Is this coming from your own psyche or a statement about the very gloomy things about our environment. I am a little bit of an escapist and tend to draw what I see as the lovely aspects of the world in which I live. I am fascinated by your ability to produce terrific tones.

Hi, Chammi. I'm sorry you find my sketches disturbing. Hopefully not too much though. I don't really see doom and gloom in anything I sketch, I just love texture and shapes. I grew up loving monsters and creepy crawlies, which might explain further, but I think the second part of your reply, where you talk about escapism and your own endevours actually answers your own question better than I could. My escapism and love, and wonder come from a wide veriety of sources. It's all good to me.

Thanks for your interest.

Debby: You seem to be everywhere giving everyone that little bit of encouragement. It always means a lot, and is noticed. Cheers.
Joan T: Many thanks.

Mellow greetings, yookie dookie!

Great sketch. The hair on the girl is perfect. Just the right amount of tossle to evoke that feeling of her being asleep.

Many thanks, Vhere & Debby. Since I was a kind I've always loved old B&W film. Nothing better for a Sunday afternoon.
