Re: Can Anyone Recommend A Printer?

I use Epson, it's pretty good. But I would also suggest HP, both have printers that can deliver high quality printing. Also I heard Cannon isn't so bad either, I haven't tried it myself though.

Re: Can Anyone Recommend A Printer?

Hi Lynny, if I'm remembering correctly, I registered it online ... I think I got a prompt to register it when I did the printer set up. Sorry I haven't been on the site in a while ... there's been a lot going on at the shop and then there was some family stuff going on. Hope everything's working out well with your printer.

Re: Can Anyone Recommend A Printer?

Hi Archivalarts ... so far I've done printing on some parchment that I had on hand, a bit of rough finish card stock (neither were inkjet coated) and some hand made papers, and it's printed great ... it doesn't have the photograph color quality, but when I'm using those types of paper I'm looking for a more rustic or earthy look. When I've printed on photo quality papers it's printed fantastic. The Ilford Galerie Classic Pearl paper I had is wonderful also. I've been really pleased with my Canon Pixma iX6520; print size and price were my biggest factors for selecting it, and it hasn't disappointed me at all. I had an Epson a while back and it sits unused in our basement because it clogged ALL the time and I could never keep it printing (the ink use when running the cleaning function was also outrageous)...maybe I had a faulty Epson, but it certainly kept me from selecting another.

Re: Can Anyone Recommend A Printer?

Hi Joe Publik, sorry I'm slow on the response to your inquiry (did you get a printer yet?) I own a shop where I'm the only employee and it's been busy (plus I've had some family stuff going on). The Canon Pixma iX6520 inkjet printer prints up to 13x19 and is currently on Amazon for around $200 and I've found the ink usage to be very reasonable ... It has a separate black cartridge for BW printing and then a black for the color printing (it's not an 8 color printer, but I've been pleased with the quality). It runs around $60 when replacing all the inks. I have a link to this printer on my article in UpMarket on Squidoo http://www.squidoo.com/the-seventh-stone Hope this helps.

yes i am totally agreed with alunap....

1) Most printing is b&w for letters etc. If you use your multi-cartridge inkjet for this you will be paying through the nose, because whenever any one cartridge runs out and is replaced it uses up a bit of ink from ALL the cartridges in the setup routine (epson is particularly bad for this, but not exclusively). Therefore, it is worthwhile getting a laser printer (such as a Brother desktop printer) for your normal printing runs. Much quicker too.

2) For printing out photos you still need an inkjet, but the printers are sold for little or no profit in order to sell you expensive ink. Install a CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) instead, and the price of ink becomes negligible.

I have done both, but the second would deal with the problem of black running out, too. You just buy ink in bottles and keep supply topped up.
