WIP: Detail of a horse's eye

I am following a tutorial for soft pastels, but adjusting the technique as i go along to be compatible with oil pastels. It's funny that tutorials for other media (oil technique, soft pastels, etc.) help me a lot with my oil pastel techniques.

Looking good already, Haytham. I also find working in other media helps me in my art.

Well done! Love the colors of the eye and the suggestion of eyelashes.

The eye is beautifully done.

I agree, too-working in several mediums helps all of them.

Christel, and anyone else, any suggestions on how I could have done the eyelashes? Getting a very thin line was the trickiest part.

Re: WIP: Detail of a horse's eye

The easiest way to add eyelashes over the black is to paint with diluted white oil paint using a very small brush or a porcupine quill Toothpick will also work.
Another way is to first give the area a white layer and after applying the black, scratch back as you would for scratch art.
If you scratch back into the black now, you could add white op in thin lines using the sharp edge. The white op should have a good covering ability though.

Beautiful job!

I never thought about tutorials featuring soft pastels as being useful guidance for oil pastels. Very interesting idea, as some tutorials can be terrific.

This turned out beautifully, with excellent shading and blending. Well done!
