Sunset & Daisies

Hi,
It has been a while since I last painted. A friend of mine sent me a photo which she said can serve as reference for a paiting. I normally do not paint flowers but still I gave it a try for fun.

Btw, I also sealed it with Gamblin wax.

Paper: St. Cuthberts Mill Bockingford 20"x15"
Paint: Holbein wc

All C&C are very much welcome.

Thanks

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Arvin, this is gorgeous, setting the daisies in front foreground in a landscape view. I'm not familiar with sealing wc with wax. Why would you do that, for humidity reasons?

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Hi Kay,
Sealing with wax medium is the equivalent of sealing with varnish. It allows me to frame the painting without glass . There are links in wetcanvas that describes the processes.
Thanks for the kind comments

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Btw, when I seal my painting with wax (just a few), I noticed that the the colors and contrasts are more vivid.

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Very nice painting but wonder about the wax to seal the painting. Has to be here somewhere in WC.

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Beautiful. Very atmospheric and the daisies looks great.
I wonder about the wax sealing too. Is the wax liquid? How do you apply it?

Re: Sunset & Daisies

Hi,
Below are some links here in WC, there are videos in youtube that shows the process. Btw, sealing with wax is a personal preference....am not endorsing anything

Using Wax Medium

Gamblin Cold Wax Medium

Dorland Wax as sealer

Thanks

Re: Sunset & Daisies

There are threads in the learning zone. I posted a thread on how I applied it (1st link about Gamblin). I was trying to provide the link but it does not seem to work so I'll just put the URL and just copy and paste in your browser address....

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1428447

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show....php?t=1351558

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620766

There also videos in youtube like Protect and present your watercolor without a frame by RB Anderson studio, How to mount a watercolor painting on board by Annie Strack

Sorry for not putting the links, as mentioned it does not work properly for me right now...maybe my internet

Hope this helps

Thanks

Re: Sunset & Daisies

I cant seem to post any link or URL....sorry. I tried 4 times but nothing happened. Go to the learning zone and look for

- Gamblin Cold Wax Medium on Watercolor (one of the thread I started)
- Using Wax Medium
- Dorland wax as a sealer

Or you can look it up in youtube;
- protect and present your watercolor without a frame by RB Anderson Studio

Really sorry, did my best to link the threads

Hope this helps

Thanks
