Not all wounds are superficial-WIP

Had some coffee left and didn't want to waste it. Started this last night and still have no idea where it's going. I have a couple of commissions to work on so this will sit for awhile and I will think about it. Anyway... Coffee on stretched canvas. 12X24

thanks for lookin'.
Peace.

I love the shading you get with just one colour! Looking forward to seeing the WIP stages and finished painting.

Re: Not all wounds are superficial-WIP

The first coffee paintings were made centuries ago so it will last. When painting on paper I use hair spray ti seal it. On canvas I spray it with clear varnish to protect it. If you don't you can take a wet rag and clean the canvas off. That being said... it's very hard to paint with because when you go to put a darker layer over another it will lift the first layer. It's tricky and there are tricks that I lave learned along the way and still learning.

Very cool, Alfred! I thought that you might be headed in a Grateful Dead direction with the skull and rose, but your finish has a weightier memento mori feel.

I experimented with coffee for the first time - I seem to remember you saying it is quite lightfast?
