Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Hey, gorgous, the texture really adds zazzle to the box! So beautifully rendered.

And personally, I'm glad you didn't line up the pears, but gave it depth by overlapping!

Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Hi Nell, I just checked with my framer/husband and he said he would use acid-free foam core like he usually does and it's 3/16" thick. That will give plenty of space between the painting and the mats (usually double off-white). We might try something different with this one though to give it a more contemporary look: maybe a reverse bevel or double reverse bevel. First we have to figure out how to do that.

Thank you Charlie and Marina!

Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Donna, I haven't commented in the pastel forum in ages. Nice to see someone I "know". Wow, I love these pears. Just yummy, you may remember how I love red. Interesting how you did the texture. Beautiful, too.

Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Michele, Jo, Rockport and Randy - thanks very much for leaving such nice comments! I hope to do more along this line someday. I'm still not sure if the texture detracts too much from the subject but I don't care much about that; it's just so much fun creating those bumps and then painting over them.

Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Donna: these pears are really wonderful. The setup/composition is dynamic. The colors really sing and the texture is so nice. I've wanted to do this kind of thing with modeling paste or liquitex extra heavy gesso and a pumice gel.
You've inspired me.
I wonder though, about some of the stuffy purist judges of pastel shows.

Nice to see you having fun with the dust.

Derek

Don't know how I missed this post the first time! I love the textured ground and that brilliant red! And those pears are wonderful!

Re: Pears (texture experiment)

Derek, I didn't know there was such as thing as extra heavy gesso. It sounds like it would be fun to build texture with. Thanks for looking!

Thank you Justin!

Thanks Dorothea! If you haven't played with a textured ground yet I'll bet you'd like it.
