Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Happy Thanksgiving or "Black Friday"...any pastel sales?
Squeaking in before the end of the month with my contribution....
loosely based on one of my photos.
I'm not too happy with the result...perhaps because I'm working on UART 400 grit....
yes, Don you read that correctly ... I'm feeling brave enough to go upmarket....
Anyway, C+Cs welcome
Rembrandt,Sennelier and Richeson pastels.

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Leslie, Very nice! I think it is a bit different from your usual paintings which seem more light and airy, but I think you have given much more mood to the painting than is in the nice reference photo. While the photo is all warmth, your painting has much more warm and cool contrast and the woods become much more mysterious and haunting with those blues in the background! As usual, you have that wonderful color harmony throughout! Nicely done!

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Thanks Don, I used the darks for contrast to the warm tones but the trees became a little more brooding than I intended!

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Thank you very much for your kind comments Donna, Jay, Fana.
Leslie, you created a warm and mystic atmosphere in your painting.
That is a rare combination.
Still warm and pleasing in the sunlit spot, but there are some winter ghouls lingering nearby.
Well done.

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Your painting looks very nice and mysterious, Leslie!
I haven't done many pastels over the summer, about time I start practicing again. First one are the berries, size 6x9", second one 8.5x11.5", NuPastel with water, Rembrandt, Stabilo pencils:

Leslie, I love your interpretation. Dark, brooding, mysterious. I can see this is a museum! I could sit on one of those benches at look for mysterious figures in the woods. I like that very, very much.
Fans, THOSE BERRIES! Popped right off the page onto my table. And your trees are refreshing.

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Squeaking another one in before the end of the month....
I've been working on this for most of the month...
the trees looked like bushes for most of the time
Don, you might find this more typical of my usual approach.
The photo is poor...it's a view that peaks at me along the trail I walk with my pooches.
UArt 400 and a variety of my usual pastels.
C&Cs welcome!

Leslie, Very lovely! Your ability to weave warm and cool color throughout and get that get that wonderful color harmony is very evident here! That subtle sky is very nice, too!

Re: The Spotlight - November 2017 - Fall Colors
Nice work, Fana, both the berries and the gorgeous fall colored grasses and trees!
Leslie, I like both of your paintings too! The way the leaves lay over the tree shadows in the first one is very appealing. I admire the way you interpreted the photo; you created quite a mood! The second painting looks so very fall-like with the subtle color contrasts. That tall stand of trees deserves to be featured!
