Well I met my wife’s cousin a great guy now in his 80s. He and his wife were great fun and hosts. He is having trouble with his knee and not getting about without pain but he never complains. I would let you know if I had the problem. My wife found this maybe 3″ high B&W picture of him and his brother who died in his twenties in a car wreak I thought I would take a shot at doing this little acrylic 12″ by 16″ and send it to him. Just got it packed up for tomorrow shipping. It was fun making up a color from B&W and trying to still keep a period feel to it. I think the snap is from about 1947-48. C&C welcomed but pass the point of changing.

Bill was a long time valued member of our community who passed away after a lengthy illness. We will miss him. Rest in peace.

A painting is never really done as long as I can get my hands on it.
June 26, 2018 at 12:57 am #647199This is very 1940’s; those plaid jackets, the glasses and hairstyles are all so common for that time period. What a nice memento of your wife’s cousin and his time with his brother. He will love this!
I really like what you did with the color, from a b&w photo. I remember well seeing many photos of my parents and older siblings, which were hand-colored by airbrush and had these types of colors. So I think the coloring is evocative of that time period also.

June 28, 2018 at 10:45 am #647202Thanks for your comments. I was able to enlarge picture by taking a snap of it then printing it bigger, still areas like the eye not real detailed. Apparently you can see a likeness with less detail?
