Re: Auburn At Dusk (working title)

I thank you, Greg, and I hope you enjoy your Fury print.
Tuesday morning and another 90 or so minutes of work today...soon I'll be spending 8-10 hours every day in studio, and nothing could be more exciting for me than that!

Working primarily on the reflections this morning. The pavilion tents, the highlights, the sky, etc...really helps to shape and give form to the individual body parts. I will have to flatten the hatching on the bonnet, tho...I can see it taking on an unexpected contour...

You are rocking it. I find it quite helpful to look at my art on the monitor. It shows me things I can't see on the board. I think it's a good tool or a frustrating one. Because, once you've seen it, you know you'll have to work on it!
This is looking great!

Re: Auburn At Dusk (working title)

Louise and Ginger, thank you. You're right, Ginger, as I use the monitor as a tool to gauge the effectiveness of a technique and to look at it from another perspective. It gets to be a P. I. A. on an image as big as this, as I have to scan it in 8 slices then stitch them together to see it. 20 minutes gone. Still, it's an invaluable tool, as this scan proves: I was totally unsure of how effective the textures and tones were for the reflected pavilions in the bonnet, and seeing them on the screen, I'm elated!

Should finish this thing today, but I'm still unsure as to whether I should use a little bit of background to establish a clearer "outline" for the rear fender and tire. Opinions?

You're asking us? My goodness, there's not much you don't know about this medium. Your work is phenomenal Matthew. Don't envy you the FGB shards though

Re: Auburn At Dusk (working title)

Jenny, YES, I'm asking the most gifted, talented, helpful kind, wonderful artistic peer group on the planet. This means YOU! Thank you for the kind words, and you as well, Venkat. Coming from the two of you, high praise indeed.
I think I got it, though. Just a little hint of the lawn, which I still need to push back just a bit with an ink wash before picking out a few subtle highlights...

This piece needed this little extra touch BADLY, but now I'm finally thrilled with it. Gonna have to pick a frame for this one very carefully...
Yeah. I dig it.
