which pencils for best greys?

hi!
regardless of where you live and shop, which type/brand of pencil has the best neutral greys?
i'm looking for the one stop quick tip to finding individually sold pencils with 2-3 whites and 6-8 greys as neutral as possible, from light to dark. yes black too.
i want the oomph, the saturation that only comes with pigments, and the ability to blend in color. too greedy?

Looking at my full set of Polychromos, I have 6 cool grey, 6 warm grey, payne's grey and black and white.

They can be bought individually.

Prismacolor pencils have a wonderful selection of greys, cool, warm and french greys. The smooth blending and rich pigment of the prismacolor pencils is one reason I have always loved them.

Re: which pencils for best greys?

Faber-Castell's 230 - 235 are a range of six neutral grays and Payne's gray 181 is also quite neutral as it's very close to black.

The Caran d'Ache Pablo and Supracolor grays 002 - 008 number seven but some of them are decidedly bluish-cool.
This colour chart shows them fairly accurately.

The Caran d'Ache warm grays 401 - 409 are much more brownish than Faber-Castell warm grays 270 - 275.

Re: which pencils for best greys?

perfect! thank you guys so much!
growing more attached to oil pastels by the day, the polychromos feel right. found them here for €2,5 which is neither good nor bad. stumbled upon a 6-pack white and black for half that per pc 😊😊😊, and a clearance sale on derwent artist, color 'bistre' still in stock. have seen both before and forgotten about them. this is a good day, thank you simon!
@anniecanjump thank you! the prismacolors do look good and sound even better.
@Heikki, thank you! check out toimistoviikinki.fi if you haven't already. prices excl lvv i think, retail but also sells to individuals.

I suppose too late to answer, but I like the Faber Castelle Grays, they have more Umph, also the Prismacolor Grays, with less umph, but sometimes you can work out the color with the many Prismacolor grays then go over a touch with the Faber Castelle grays... The Prismacolor Grays have more available shades than the Faber Castelle grays

I understand cool grays are direct light shadowing..and warm gray is the reflection of light shadows.. french gray is a green gray and I am not sure how to use it.. is it also a reflective light shadow color?
