Re: sketch of the day

I popped a run through similar to this on the tube ..just using payne.s grey
one of our friends suggested one done in a brown tone ,maybe a green warm color say... an early spring morning with the mist rising here.s a reminder of it///RE// was from a pic suggested by one of our viewers
must say the grey lends itself well to a foggy winter morning ,dont you think ? LYA

Monochromes look good especially in snow scenes. This latest one is a cracker and you have aerial perspective as well.

Re: sketch of the day

Hi everyone today..I thought I would do one for our beginners ,I think tonal values are are so important , after all a good drawing can be spoiled by
bad coloring..,if in any doubt use a limited palette to begin ,even
try one color .ok .so what you can do, is increase the dark's by using darker colors ok you are painting a tree starting with the trunk and branches,. you use a dark, say, ultramarine with burnt umber ,now to paint the foliage you use cobalt and umber .so thats a lighter tone isnt it,so you are using color ,and thats one way

ok sorry to go on. I refer you to study the learning zone and other threads.all will be explained .

Re: sketch of the day

I love the paynes gray one Alan. It's amazing how many different shades/values you can achieve in a monochrome.

THis last one is a lovely country scene.

Both of them are winners! I enjoyed your video on youtube for the monochrome.

Re: sketch of the day

Alan, this is lovely. I thought your video on the tonal values was very instructive, and I checked here, and you've done another with good information in it. I don't think there's a bottom to your knowledge! Thanks so much for posting these. I'm learning a lot from all you do.

Re: sketch of the day

hi everyone the only painting I have managed to do,, is this one.. I took a video of it as I painted .it is on the tube .I am trying to help beginners a little bit by talking about the tonal values .nothing special .the best bit is the ice cream sounds and plane in the background, you don't get those extras on a posh video//
hee hee,

I saw your Utube video, it is great. I see you have a tripod easel now. Red too.
