Burning Stencil Skull

happy how to burn a stencil
im using a stencil burner,pellon,ball point pen,frame an glass.

you can use a window,i like to use framed glass.

draw what ever you want.im doing a skull bone headed thing.

then use the framed glass as a backer/protects from burning the desk.plus the burner glides smooth like butter.

start burning.

i save some of the stencil parts.you do what ever you want.

ta da...thats a good stencil.i could have used a clear film.x-ray film.over head film.penent felt.i like pellon.

im using paper on the weasle.it could have been a t-shirt,canvass ect...for the demo how to it plain ol paper.

i will hold the stencil with a clothed pin.one should do it.if your new at this maybe ten clothed pins will work for you.

im using createx and a iwaha ha ha ha airbrush.you can use any airbrush for this part of ther how to.im airbrushing at 40 psi.soome times i used 30 psi.i can do it at 60 psi.its up to you.

i airbrush with air coming out of my airbrush all the time.the constant air flow, i use to keep the stencil down an prevent stencil flutter.its a thing i do to save time an effort.
when i get the stencil still i easy the trigger back,paint.you may want to tape it all down
an mask for over spray.

no need to blast it with all the paint you got.i use all the air possible an little paint.
you should not be airbrushing like your spraying paint out of a rattle can.no need to waste paint an cover the hole stencil.remmember to move.dont airbrush in one spot to long.

after airbrushing the stencil is removed.then i start to airbrushing.taa daa.

That's a good wip. I'm not sure anyone's done a wip like that before. Sure, some mentions of stencils but this one is a bit more detailed with more pics. I like the way the outlines look like they were drawn with a pen. Thanks and welcome to WC! !

Thanks for that WIP. I'm a newbie AB'er and have been messing around with making my own stencils with my stencil burner. Pretty much anything I use flutters up from the air pressure and I get under-spray.

I think you're WIP taught me that I am using to much air. I'll give it a new try tomorrow with a lower psi. I think that will nail it. Thanks! Also, I was worried about using the stencil burner on regular glass. I had brought out a photo framed glass to work on the day I got my burner and then chickened out LOL

I want to add that anyone that posts a tutorial, vid or WIP is helping us others much more than you all know.

where do you buy the stencil materials? I've been using the excess plastic packaging whenever i find a flat piece big enuf. but i've been cutting em. haven't burned one yet. just a wood burner?

I get my stuff at Coast Airbrush in Anahiem CA. They carry the pylon sheets in 16" x 16"($.80ea. or doz for $9.00) the Duralar .005 mil (25 sheet book) in 17" x 14"$19.95 and the .10 mil in 20" x 25" individual sheets $4.53ea.

I have 2 questions:
1) What paints are you using?
2) What is this "pellon" that you use to make the stencils. I can not find it in any dictionary or google. Would be happy if you just explained what it is normally used for and where to buy it.

jan, thanks...www.bearair.com sells pellon an createx .also i use any waterbased acrylics paint.what ever is avalible.mainly i use createx.for this how to.
it seem to be simple to work with.auto air is good.simple too.i can use urethane paints but for this how to its not wise to put that type of paint on paper.

The product Peter is referring to is a fabric made around the world under different names. Here in Australia it's called "Vylene".
If you go to any fabric store they sell it by the meter. It's often used as a stiffener for wedding dresses and other things. Very inexpensive...we purchase 5' X 100' rolls for around 60 bucks. I know the old brand I used to purchase here was German made. Some companies use the stuff for filtration also.
