Wild Hair! Color, Oh My!

I got a wild hair yesterday. Decided I wanted to experiment. So I dug out a 5x5 while claybord, wandered through the reference photos, and decided to see what would happen. It's far from done and I really have to get back to working on a commission of a cattle dog, so this one will sit at least until the weekend. It's from the macro of the hibiscus. I "think" the lower right hand corner is done, everything else is still a wip. Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. How can I keep from messing this up, I'm really liking it and would like to have it in the fair or at least at shows coming up.

Re: Wild Hair! Color, Oh My!

I really like the wild colours, very fauvist. I like the dark off-centre focal area in the lower right and how it contrasts with the bright yellow anther. I wonder though about the two yellow areas at the top of the work, though. They seem to draw my eye up and off the top edge? but maybe it's just me.

You have my sincere admiration, I would never have the guts to let go like this!

Thanks Tania, I didn't post the reference, I think they'll be toned down a bit and more colors intermixed, we'll see...major experiment here.

One of the best parts of working on white board with color is that it is very difficult to make a mistake you can't easily correct. This is such a fun piece. I LOVE working from macro shots. This will be a great addition to your show pieces.

Thanks everyone, I am enjoying it....I was thinking, Rod-Man, with your style you could pull something off like this and airbrush in the smoothness I'm trying to get with scratching and paint! Try it!
