Here is a 24x36 oil on panel I completed in early October titled Days Gone By.
I happened upon an old overgrown piece of land with this barn and a log cabin on it back in April. It reminded me of my parents farm which has since been abandoned like so many other homes that were built long ago for lives long past.
It currently hangs in The Hartley Gallery along with this poem I wrote as a companion piece.
Lives built long ago by strong, young hands
Fields tended and children born to the Proud
Tire swings and birthdays and fireflies
Sunsets and rain from the back porch
Lives centered around these things built
Coming and going in and out
With warm hellos and proud goodbyes
Familiar voices just in the other room
Lives long ago reflected by the land
These things built now stand quiet and alone
Weeds grown and fallen branch and beautiful
Silent reminders of days gone by
Detail of the barn
Detail of the tractor
Thank you for looking, and I hope you enjoyed this piece.
