Re: Primary Box - Little Box Series

Ah well Elain...it is a combination of little tricks that make it work in various places. In the black writing on the glue, that is my very sharp medium density General pencil. I use that because although it is not as 'black' as some of my other pencils, it keeps a very sharp edge. Now the ruler is more of a transfer. I put a medium dark grey on the back of my drawing for the numbers and increments and a burgundy red on the back of the lettering for the Cake Mix. Then I was MOST CAREFUL ...with a very sharp pen, to trace only in the right places for the rules and only the outline of the 'Cake Mix'. Because I knew I didn't have the colour I wanted in a pastel pencil for the reds, the outline gave me what I needed and any red pencil works for filling in.

I hope that makes sense. I then went back in and did put some very light touches of my General medium pencil on the numerals etc. to bring them up to the level I wanted to see. I needed to be extra careful because the background colour for both the sheen of the ruler and the bottom half were a mixture of colours and I knew it would be hard to touch up if I erred.

Cheers, Dianna

Thank you so much Dianna. It does make sense and a very useful tip.

But as I said - a steadyhand too!

Dianna, love your contrast here from dark to light gives it a little bit of "looking into the past" feel. Wonderful detail work!

Re: Primary Box - Little Box Series

Thanks to both of you.

Dan, the show doesn't start until next weekend and then runs for two weeks so it will be a wait and see. I am still framing like crazy here...you know how it is. Any new stuff that doesn't sell stays up after the show which is always great as Christmas shopping has started by then.

It it is a poor year, I just look at it as a stock pile that will finally enable me to get some work to those other galleries that have been clamoring but I have put on hold.

Take care and keep dusty. Cheers, Di

Re: Primary Box - Little Box Series

Thank you so much! It's no big secret...one just has to enjoy the process. The more I am enjoying the creation of a particular painting...the longer I stretch it out.

It is not nearly as detailed as it looks. I just pay close attention to making it a good facsimile of whatever wee object I am attempting to depict. I don't spend a lot of time making all of the edges flawless but do make a concerted effort to cover all of the background paper.

Cheers, Dianna

Thank you Adriana. I am just about ready to begin my Secondary Box. I am awaiting my pencil crayons from EBay.
