Elemental Guardians

I know I threw Rubin in here somewhere sometime ago, my fire angel. In my personal story world she's one of four sisters, each of who is the guardian of one of the four elements Earth, Water, Air and Fire (who'd have thought it XD)

In any case since Rubin is also an rp-char of mine and happens to be my favorite, I found to have shamefully neglected her siblings and thus decided to sit down and do drawings of them all and possibly add one of their 'father' if you can call him that (looong story, might type it out at some point but not right now XP).

Having the first one of the series finished after two weeks on and off, I'm decidedly not happy with the outcome as I have screwed up some major things during the coloring, the worst of them being to put the girl into a rainy setting and leave her completely dry (I gave up on the water droplets on skin thing after a night of desperately trying to pull it off, definitely something I'll have to look into more thoroughly somewhen in the near future). So there, the Elemental Guardian Of Water, Saphir:

Seeing as there are at least three more pieces to follow this one, I'm going to kind of make this a project-WIP-thread. I'm most likely going to post up sketches and WIP shots of the other images once I'm working on them so of course CC will be more than welcome.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Beautiful colors! The blue is strikingly vivid! Looking forward to the rest!

You should re-post Rubin here, too...for those who are new to the forum. And it would make the thread complete if it is to have the other elements as well.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Thanks, BD and Suzi. Well, Rubin will eventually be shoved into this thread as I was going to do a drawing of her in a similar style along with the other two elements. But yes, I can surely pull out an older image of her and post it up.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Thanks, Kevin. Yeah, those feathers are pretty much the one part of the image I'm content with. Though they took a bloody long time to do XD

Okay, so here is the first draft of the Air Elemental. Still fiddling with the details especially of her clothing and pondering on a possible background. CC more than welcome as this is still the very first WIP stage.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Yes I love the blue of the wings and they look wonderful. Great job. Love the start on the new one. Like how you have the moon peeking out from between the wings or is that part of the fabric? This is going to be very nice.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Great deep royal colors in the ?rain spirit? !

The air sketch looks good too. I'll be checking back!

Do you know, you got me to try black paper...I love it! but I have trouble getting the colors as bright as you do. Do you underdraw with white?

Re: Elemental Guardians

Well, she's the angel of water in general, not only rain but thanks. Yeah, I love blue colores so I definitely enjoyed doing those feathers.

I don't do a white underdrawing as it has a habit of distorting the colors above it or brightening them in places I don't like. The only times I do a light layer of white underneath an area is when I work with bright yellows. Especially Canary yellow tends to come out kind of greenish when standing on its own so that's where I interfere with white to avoid such mess ups.

Other than that I'm just relying on the plan old magic of layering my colors. I found that way the paper takes more color and you can achieve more opacity. And the more opacity you have the smaller the risk of the black shining through and dulling the colors.

Re: Elemental Guardians

Thank you, Yuffie

Many thanks to you as well, Bill, though I'm not quite sure I understand what you meant with 'folded under her left leg'? O.o Maybe try and explain it? Or maybe I'm just dense XD.

Re: Elemental Guardians

lets see , how about this -- bend at knee so that her right leg [ shin and calf ] is parallel to her left arm so she'd have more of a dance pose .

Re: Elemental Guardians

Alllll rightie, AI love series works. I really like the colors you've use in the first. Only thing that bothers me is the wings look like they'er place alittle low on her back. Now the new layout.......WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the wings and love the movement. This one's gonna be a killer!!!

Peace'
