Joe, you sure do have palms! I thought maybe one by the front door. :-) Around here we have Loblolly pines and that is about the only kind unless someone brought one from outside or maybe planted a potted Christmas tree. I know very little about types of trees. Good for you! I learned something. Thanks.

Hi Angela. Nice job especially like the ellipses. They are tough.

Keep sketching

Re: Scavenger Hunt #573, Jan 20 - Jan 29

Hi I haven't been by since last spring, and I haven't drawn anything on my iPad (or otherwise).

Not long ago, I was visiting an acquaintance and had my iPad and Apple pencil with me. Unexpectedly, they asked me to draw something in Procreate in charcoal. It was an epic failure. I couldn't do it. Partly because I hate to be watched, but partly because apparently it isn't like riding a bike lol.

That was a wakeup call. Charcoal was what I fell in love with as a kid (although I now paint in acrylics). But to be totally unable to do anything at all with charcoal (and to me it shouldn't matter if it is virtual or not), was such a wake up. I've let something slip away that used to matter.

I hope to sketch something for this week's event. In charcoal (virtual). It may be the worst ever, but if I sketch something, I'll post it anyway.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #573, Jan 20 - Jan 29

item #1 - keepsake

ribbon (which serves to hang a miniature Marjolein Bastin flower from Hallmark)

Thanks Ai 😄 I was thinking of what you told me several times a long time ago, echoed by what you said today... so I thought I should just quickly do something while I still know how to hold a pencil, and to not worry about it. This took less than 30 seconds. I'll try to do the whole item at some point in the future.

Tools:

iPad Pro, Apple Pencil

Procreate app for the sketch.

Art Studio Pro app for the crop, border, downsize, and export.

Process:

Virtual charcoal on virtual drawing paper.

Freehand, no drafting tools or tracing, digital or otherwise.

No grid or smoothing or symmetry or cloning, digital or otherwise.

No filters or effects, or color intensification or exaggeration.

Reference located a few inches away.

Paul - nice job shading on the paper towels.

Pine Cone - Welcome home! I have missed you and our discussions. 30 secs! Can’t do any thing on the IPad in less than 5 min and that’s drawing a straight line. Like Ai said..just go with the flow.

Keep sketching
Joe

Joe, Thanks for a fun list! Your palm trees sound amazing Please... sketches, watercolors, pics!!! 🌴 I had no clue there were so many kinds of palms or that they grow so fast Very cool

EP, Perfect footwear for right now, brrr Ooo! PanPastels!!!

Joan, Wonderful to see your watercolors again! Nifty coppery-highlighted pen. Clever comfy corner and portrayal of it all!

Ai, PanPastels are super fun and easy!!! They are soft and crumbly. You can apply them with their special tools, including tiny sponges in different shapes. The gizmo that the sponge goes on could be used alone as a tiny palette knife also. Or a scraper and mixer-upper. But you can really use anything to apply them!!! Some people use makeup brushes and makeup sponges to apply them. And regular Q-tips work really well. They make pointy Q-tips now that would work also. I hope you love them!!!

Jo, Best to you and Gene

Angela, Lovely group. Your colors are appealling and the highlights bring them all to life!

Paul, Interesting theme, and lovely shapes and shading!

Angela, hi!! Nice to "see" you. Oh, like the sketches and thanks for the red mug!!

Paul, nice paper towels ...and holder. Good shading.

Pine Cone, hi!! Nice to see you, too. I like the ribbon sketch.

I'm still being lazy.... I'll think about sketching tomorrow. Evil grin.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #573, Jan 20 - Jan 29

Hi everyone, sorry to have been absent for a bit. You know, life...

Here are a few entries to this hunt (thanks for the list Joe!). All done with a black fine-liner in either an A5 or A4 sketchpad.

#1 Something round (I think this isn't the first wine glass that I've posted, and I guess it won't be the last!):

#2 Something triangular (actually, two triangles for the price of one in the bike frame). This is my beloved Trek.

#3 Water (actually, this one was done with a 4B pencil).

#4 Something metallic (this is to remind me to get on with my winter pruning!):
