Re: Rob's 2015 Sketches

Purr thank you, Debby! Sydney, I sympathize. Several years ago I went nuts bashing my head out on exactly that frustrating thing. I'd do one great sketch on a page and all the space around it was too much but none of it large enough to add another. I started studying Leonardo's pages and other sketch pages by any artist that was good at layout. Eyepaint is incredible at layout, if you look at her WDE drawings where she puts in something from every reference in a two page spread the layouts are incredible. But I saw them when she first started out and she worked up to that gradually. Don't lose hope. Page layout has a long learning curve.

I've finally gotten to where if I do put only one sketch on a page usually it fills that page nicely. I have yet to reach the point where I can make them actually overlap like Leonardo and STILL have the page come out balanced and gorgeous. Right now I need space around every drawing or painting.

Third artwork of the day. I'm now short only one for 30 in 30 though I hope tomorrow I can load more than one painting to my link. The uploads are only open for one day after, so I might have missed two anyway by being sick for more than one day.

Still, this came out pretty awesome to me! I love this color.

Coral Painting
5" x 7"
Winsor & Newton Watercolour Markers
white Bockingford watercolour paper 140lb Not surface.
Inspired by undersea documentary, painted loosely to design generally following the forms of the animals rearranged to my composition. These animals seemed so perfect for a monochrome near-abstraction.

Re: Rob's 2015 Sketches

Purr thank you! I got to post one of my three make-up artworks but unless she does a post at the end for make-up artworks that's it for the official challenge. Missed too many days in a row. So if she does it again next year I'll kind of try to get ahead early and be able to post something on missed days.

Here is today's for Day 18 - so happy to get back to pastel and work larger!

First the sketch, charcoal pencil and white charcoal pencil:

If he wasn't spotlighted by a beam of sunlight, he'd vanish. But he looked up to watch something twirling down. Cats are easily distracted!

Bobcat Looking Up

Pastels on Bee Bogus recycled paper

He is up on my sketch wall now, sitting up in his sun patch forever watching a dry leaf twirl down or a cheeky blackbird chirp at him. I loved that pose, not the usual cat face pose but one I've seen so many times from Ari. Actually might be a butterfly or something right above the picture since it looks like he's just moving his right paw for an upward swat! I think I'll enjoy living with him. Love having more cats on my walls! At last visitors can see that I'm the cat artist.

Re: Rob's 2015 Sketches

Wow, thank you both. BLR, I didn't think of that. I could do it though, and it's in my journal. I could go back to Deviantart and post some of my recent ones, be a little selective and do cards and prints and mugs.

And here's today's second art, not really part of 30 in 30 because it's drawings. But still a nice double spread page of sketches!

Double Page spread of Little Ari Life Sketches
5 1/2" x 7"
Pocket accordion fold Moleskine journal, assorted Pigma Micron pens
Plus a live cat laying around being lazy.

Re: Rob's 2015 Sketches

Will do, Barbara, thanks! He does, Debby, I love all of his expressions. I've lived with him for nearly 15 years and he's so complex and interesting a being, so deep in his thoughts sometimes.

Today's daily painting is pastels, though I was tempted to do it in watercolor and pen instead.

I hated the background till I saw it in thumbnail. Some things just don't look cool when my nose is right on top of it.
