Re: "Why?", a WIP

Thank you prashant, I appreciate it.

Thanks very much Shireesh. I am glad she has red hair, it does add punch to the painting.

Thank you so much Donna... I really appreciate that.

Re: "Why?", a WIP

Chris,

This is really turning out nicely. In looking at the sequence on your blog you seem to be alternating painting war and cool on the skin tones, or is that just the differences in photos? Regardless, I can't wait to see where this goes.

Re: "Why?", a WIP

This is coming along wonderfully. I like how the hair suddenly brought the skin tones into a new and warmer glow. That's so beautiful.

I'm planning a portrait and you've given me some ideas on how to handle the shadows differently than I used to. I have a darker complexion to work with but I love how you handled the color and will see what I can do when I get down to working on my young man.

Re: "Why?", a WIP

Thank you Barry. I think step 4 on my blog is a bit too cool, the photo isn't quite right. It is difficult to get exactly the same lighting each time I take a photo.... the final one will be taken with great care to be absolutely accurate. I could try and adjust step 4 on my computer to get it closer to the painting... maybe I will so it isn't confusing. I did start out with a lot of cool colors, then gravitated towards warmer ones where needed.

Thanks Robert. When I added the hair color things started to feel more exciting. I guess because of the red hair, which is definitely more colorful. It is difficult to do though, as I don't want it to read harsh or too much.... hopefully I'm getting it right. I'm looking forward to seeing your portrait, darker skin tones are fun because you can get even crazier with the colors .....

Oh Chris, this is wonderful. What I'm getting is very poignant. There's an aging body, and steely reserve in those eyes, and a great sense of history. I hope I'm capturing some of what you're conveying, because it speaks volumes.
Kris

For those interested in Giraults, I have the greys set, as well as the Texier II, darks, and a landscape set. Wonderful pastels, my all time favorite. Unfortunately, they have not led me to paint as well as Chris, but one can dream.

Hi Kris! So glad to see you back here, we missed you! I am blushing now.... thank you so much.... You get exactly what I am trying to do, exactly.

Giraults are a dream to work with aren't they? I love them especially for portraits, easy to control and great colors. You handle them expertly my dear, no doubt about it.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! And the hair colour works so well together with the blue of her clothes and eyes! Can't wait to see the progress!
BTW, just won 50 Giraults in a competition, isn't that nice?
