Re: Joan's 2014 Sketches

Thanks Doug, Jacqui and Debby! Once again I'm falling behind with my posting.

I'm always looking for different buildings to sketch so I sketched the local train station which is quite modern.

I was doing sketches for a kitchen theme so here are a few views of my kitchen.

Re: Joan's 2014 Sketches

I also did a double page sketch in my moleskine of the school down the street.

My sister and I drove down to South Carollna for a workshop. I had to sketch something in the hotel room and about all that I saw from my bed was the small fridge and microwave in the room.

The last sketch here is at Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach where we took the workshop. We got there early enough to have time to sketch before our room was available. This is the restaurant/gift shop/fishing shop at the Springmaid pier.

You make kitchen sketches look like fun, Joan! I like your sketch of the school, too. And Marlin's came out really good.

Re: Joan's 2014 Sketches

Thanks everyone!

When the workshop was over Michelle and I spent an extra day so we could go out sketching. The coast of South Carolina has some wonderful seafood, and we found a shrimp boat to sketch. I also have a photo of the sketch with the scene behind it.

Our next stop was Murrell's Inlet. It is a pretty spot and there is a walkway build along most of it. Unfortunately the walkway blocks the view if you are sitting down to sketch. So we sketched from the very end of the walkway. I also sketched one of the palm trees and a woman who was fishing in front of us.

Wonderful sketches Joan, what fun you had. I always thought your photos were a little dark and that last one shiws your paper as white, it makes a big difference.

Re: Joan's 2014 Sketches

These sketches are great Joan. That shrimp boat looks very complicated, bravo for doing such an excellent job.
Was just wondering, what happened to the Somewhere to Sketch blog you used to do great stuff for?

Thanks Doug, Debby, and Jacqui!

I did a few beach areas near me. Each of these was done from my mobile studio. That is the only way I have been able to do plein airs lately at home.

I am lucky to still be able to get out and do a portrait now and then. John posed for us one night.

Re: Joan's 2014 Sketches

Very often if I want to sketch I head over to Sayville which is the next town over and is on the water. There is almost always something going on down by the dock, and it changes from day to day.

For the kitchen theme I was working on I did a sketch of one of the beer steins that belonged to my father. He had several of them and I can remember him using them when his friends came over. When he passed away, I wanted one of the steins and his honing stone for sharpening knives. We always had a roast on Sundays and my dad would resharpen his carving knife before he used it. I always loved watching him pull the knife across the stone and then test it to see if it was sharp enough.
