Re: March Challenge 2013 - Come one, come all!

I was looking for a simple landscape to paint the top of a tray I have that my husband sanded for me. This is the result I got ....

It was kind of different, because I could not move the table while I was working!

Re: March Challenge 2013 - Come one, come all!

This turned out wonderfully, Maria! Is it a tray as in a TV tray? The colors and clouds turned out very nicely! I like feel of the piece very much. Well done!

Re: March Challenge 2013 - Come one, come all!

Hi CK. Wow, you picked some great photos to share! Thanks for hosting this month.

Todd, you painted a wonderful warm sunrise. Great colors.

Max, I love your pelican. You really captured his expression well.

Elaine, terrific pinecone drawing.

Sandra, your 3 pieces are all different and all very nice indeed. I'm particularly fond of the sumi ink painting.

Donald, great job on both paintings. I really like the texture and colors in both.

Maria, excellent cloud painting. Well done.

Here is my attempt at the clouds. Watercolor, 6 x 8 inches.

John

Re: March Challenge 2013 - Come one, come all!

It's really cool the way different artists see the same photo and come up with great paintings in their own styles.

Anyway here are my two latest paintings for this thread.

C&C appreciated,
Donald

Re: March Challenge 2013 - Come one, come all!

Great work on these two, Donald! The grasses and trees in the second piece are wonderfully done! What kind of brush do you use for trees? Are they fan brushes? I once saw a Bob Ross video on trees and his look considerably like yours; he used a fan brush usually.

I love the pelican too! You really captured the charm and personality of the bird. I would suggest pushing the contrast more so the bird really pops off the canvas rather than fade into the background a bit. With more darks, the pelican will really stand out and grab the viewer's attention.

Well done!

Cindy, these are beautiful! Such an illustrative style to them. Pen and ink is so much fun, isn't it? I really love the tree. The colors are so natural and real. Great work!
