Re: Scavenger Hunt #397 Mar 10 - Mar 18, 2015

Hi there

I usually hang mainly on the watercolor boards but have been looking for motivation to just keep sketching, something, daily. So I've been lurking over here and following you in the scavenger hunt.

Here's a first attempt, in a Canson XL mixed media sketchbook with Micron pen and Koi watercolors:
#1 staircase, #2 sign, #3 what's left of a burning bush (it's much prettier in summer...), #4 my kids' Little People cow, and #5 an apple ... wearing a cable knit sweater cozy

Re: Scavenger Hunt #397 Mar 10 - Mar 18, 2015

Hope, excellent work with a new medium. Both are pretty. They look like they could morph into a whole bird. And of course the blue is to my liking!

Joan, look at you go! What a great sketch/painting. You don't seem to be resting up. Loved reading about your trip and looking at the photos. Beautiful.

Dawn!! Welcome!!! This is a good place to keep sketching. Some of have been around for years. I sketch when I don't do any painting. Nice folks here, too. Very nice perspective on the stairs. I like your sign and bush. What a cute cow. Hmmm, never saw an apple with a cozy on, very intriguing. I love to paint apples you will find.

I sketched this a.m. in the big sketchbook with a Micron 05.

Number 8, desk
Number 9, have a handle
Number 10, animal - I wrote dog on it and remembered when I went to post that I had done a dog. The dog is a little bronze sculpture.

The sculpture was done by a friend. I should have taken a shot from the rear. You can just see the motion of him perking his ears and getting up.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #397 Mar 10 - Mar 18, 2015

Jo - thank you. Doggies!! What did your friend use to make the sculpture?

Hope - thank you. Fun feather studies! Have we seen a photo of your new kitten?

Joan - thanks. I'm considering IFJM but I'm not a journal person and I don't want to do a bunch of research (which many people seem to do). Maybe I should just do a "tree a day" or something like that for April. I've been doing the 30 cats in 30 days and I'm up to cat 36 or so by now and I'm much more comfortable doing them. Mmmm what's for a snack at the deli?

Queen/Dawn - welcome to the hunts! Great staircase even if there's a speed limit of 25 steps per hour lol! An apple with a cozy ... oooh you have some cool items to sketch!

EP, the dog is a bronze. Made with wax and then poured at a foundry.

Ai, slow to start but look at the blue mouse!! Great find for handle and well done.

Joan- lovely scene, looks like a nice place to visit

Dawn- welcome! wonderful sketches you have, cute cow, and love that you have a sweater on your apple, though we've warmed up here in Ohio, so the apple may not need it much longer

Jo- great sketches, very cool sculpture

Ai- wonderful job on the mouse and sharpener

and since you asked, EP...

here's a few photos of my kitty, Salem

first one, when she was a small kitten (about 2 months old) and the other two are from Jan/Feb (around 6 months) she's my little purr-ball and a very loving kitty

Welcome Dawn, great sketches. I especially love the little cow. Good job on all those stairs.

Jo - Thanks. I never like to rest up when it comes to sketching. lol Nice group of sketches. Your dog sculptures by your friend look good IRL and in the sketches. I like the roll top desk.

EP - I'm sure the deli has some good snacks.

Ai - Thanks. The Mexican restaurant had some interesting things to sketch but we were so busy eating. Riding in the car always makes me hungry. lol I always loved those pencil sharpeners...they worked so well!

Epoh - Thank you. Salem is a cutie!

Re: Scavenger Hunt #397 Mar 10 - Mar 18, 2015

EP, the sculpture is small about 3 inches high and 6 inches long. We have 2 horses he did as well, they are about 10 inches high. The horses weigh about 12 pounds so I can't imagine the weight of a sculpture in a park that is 25 feet tall! Ours burned in the fire and survived. One of the horses was standing just on one leg as he was running. His leg broke and we decided to leave it.

Hope, thanks. Very cute kitten. Your "can" made me chuckle. Nicely done and the laundry is well done, too. Good thing to sketch to pass the time.

Joan, yes it seems like you cannot leave your sketching very long. Thanks. The desk is very beautiful. It looks old but is fairly new and handmade in Utah. We got it at a consignment store. I think it had been a floor model in a store and then they closed and put it there. It had never been used. Has some secret compartments. Fun. Nice buffet sketch and love, love the landscape.

I sketched this morning with my Microns in the big book.

Number 11, stock pot and Number 12, blue - a thing Gene has to pick up things from the floor or reach something on a shelf up high. It has rubber on the grabbers so is very handy.
