We’re just starting to get touches of fall color in central NC. Here are a couple of paintings I did this week from photos I took on my hikes near home. Both are oils. Top painting of beech tree is 12×16, bottom painting of sourwood leaves is 8×10.

            Wow these are fantastic Tom!

The way you painted the texture and light on the bark int the first one is beyond spectacular. Your variation in warm tones in the leaves in the second creates so much form and love the way they stand out against the complementary background.

Wonderful bark texture on the first painting – it’s not easy to create a close-up like that of a tree. The colors in the second are excellent, and I like the leaf forms.

Thanks, y’all. I’ve had a lot of practice painting beech trees. They’re one of my favorite trees, and I love the way light shows the form of their trunks and limbs. I’ve probably done at least a dozen paintings of beech trees.

They are nice. You inspire me, I usually paint on a bigger canvas, but now I’ll try something smaller.
