Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
wetcanvas watercolorists might be interested in this page I have joined on Facebook. there are over 300 members now, many famous watercolorists are there (and even participating!). I understand they are going to have guest critiques from big name painters that members can apply to receive. a very exciting forum for serious painters looking for serious critique!

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
Dang this old computer...I can't even get on/join Facebook ! What a wonderful idea, although we have a perfectly lovely Critique Corner here on Wet Canvas and more than a lot of really wonderful and great advice throughout WetCanvas! But remember, always be careful of any copyright issues for your own paintings when posting in any large forum......

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
We don't encourage members to go to other sites for criticism, in fact there is a section in the Member Agreement concerning this:
Quote:
|
ii. Direct solicitations or offers. Representatives of a third party site may not solicit users of this site to engage in activities on third party sites (such as purchasing products, posting, creating articles, enrolling in lessons or workshops, contributing to projects, etc.).
|
Whilst I acknowledge that you are not a representative of Facebook, the principle applies.

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
Sorry it violates my participation in Wet Canvas. It can be one or the other not both.

Many members are on Facebook but come to wetcanvas for information and help.

True, but sometimes one get more feedback on FB than here,it may be once in a while or often, depends on the member and how many contacts have.IMO,that rule of WC should not apply to such widespread site as FB.Just my 0.02 cents.

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
I don't think the rule is against participating both, but rather against using WC to promote a group on FB.
I know I participate in many discussion groups online. So far I have not encountered one that doesn't allow me to participate in others. Many of them frown on advertising and promotion of outside groups and products though.
Thanks for the link though, I will check it out. Not likely to leave WC though.

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
Not saying it should be, but I am curious why this thread wasn't closed or deleted if it's violating something?
I am actually in a FB oil pastel group (although I haven't touched OPs in months), but they're kind of more a supplement to WC. It feels less personal there, doesn't feel as comfy cozy happy family, if you see what I mean. I also see some fellow WC oil pastel people in that same group, which is kind of fun. Like, hey, I know you!

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
The open dialog to make the rules clear is probably a good thing. It seems to read in Doug's post that the use of WC for the promotion of other sites is the issue. Interesting discussion (I quit FB a couple of years ago, too many privacy issues at the time)

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
Put this in a different situation to see why the above section was added to the User's Agreement people sign when they join Wet Canvas.
Imagine yourself going into a nice restaurant where people are enjoying dinner and walking from table to table telling the diners about this OTHER restaurant they should go to and enjoy dinner. Do you think the owners of the first establishment would think that was a good idea???
No one is saying you can't participate in other art websites or discussion groups, I'm sure many of us do. But you aren't supposed to come to Wet Canvas and try to send people to other web sites.

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
painterbear...a perfect way to describe what this is all about....
I consider WetCanvas a "family" of artists, we handle critiques and comments gently, we applaud the efforts of all our members and help them grow, we feel encouragement when we show our art for the first time ..I'm thinking, Facebook may be "faceless" as compared to WetCanvas.

Re: Facebook Watercolor Critique Group
Forum (definition)
a public meeting place for open discussion.
a medium (as a newspaper or online service) of open discussion or expression of ideas.
Is this a forum?
Just playing devil's advocate for a minute....
