PIHOKAHANAIWIYIN: Chief Poundmaker, was a Plains Cree born in 1842 died 4 July 1886
He gained his name for his special ability to attract Buffalo into pounds. A Buffalo Pound was a huge corral with walls covered by the leaves of thick bushes. Usually herds of buffalo were stampeded into this trap, or on other occasions, the buffalo were drawn in by a person like Pîhtokahanapiwiyin, who was according to tradition, gifted by spirit helpers to use a special song to lure in the buffalo. As he sang, he used a drum. The song enticed the lead buffalo cow to bring her herd into the enclosure.

Very impressive using brush only and tea! What an interesting story, too.

Beautiful work, and no drawing either, very impressive! I love reading the stories with these Cree paintings, makes them come alive, and your paintings rendered in tea are awesome!

It’s really beautiful. How do you create an accurate image with a brush alone?
