Coastal Treasure

I have been to the East Coast of Canada a few times and scenes like this seem to be quite prevalent. Old painted buildings and rustic shacks with misty backdrops dot the seaside communities throughout the coastal and inner bay rural areas.
This is a 16 by 20 inch acrylic painting with some knifework on the rocks and foliage.
Thanks as always for looking.
I can almost smell that saltwater and feel that moist breeze on my face as I look at this and dream of being there again.
John

Love this one John! The detail in the shack and foreground pairs beautifully with the atmospheric background. Scenes like this really stick in your memory for sure.....

Re: Coastal Treasure

Nicely painted John - Those distant blues seem to recede forever. Great depth indeed which is reinforced by those old buildings & darker values on the right. An interesting composition also which leads the viewer into the scene - I like that !

Michael.

Re: Coastal Treasure

Thanks so much everyone.

Wes - I love painting atmospheric scenes and these coastal areas seem to fit in well with mist and fog. Thanks again.

Oldnmartist - The ground cover was mostly done using my palette knife ....such rich vegetation mixed in with rocky terrain . Thanks so much.

Michael- As far as the eye can see I tried to put in some very subtle treelines back there to create depth and as you indicate bump up the values on the foreground. I appreciate the comments always.

John

Re: Coastal Treasure

The misty background makes a beautiful contrast against those rich foreground colours. Very atmospheric and beautiful!

CaliAnn- Thanks so much, I really appreciate the wonderful comments. Yes there is something so serene and calming about Eastern Canada.
Heather aka ( Lucy)- thanks so much, I worked the colour and contrast against that moody sky to gain effect so appreciate your comments.
Bizzibee- thanks so much, I was hoping for that contrast effect so really appreciate you seeing the value changes. Have a great week coming up.

Re: Coastal Treasure

The way you have handled the distance makes the painting. Very lovely indeed.

Re: Coastal Treasure

This definitely has that subdued-light, misty look. Although this is along the East Coast it reminds me of time spent on the Great Lakes. Gary

Re: Coastal Treasure

John- thanks so much for the wonderful comments....very much appreciated. I did work that depth and atmospheric effect on this one for sure.

SkyeNorth- very much appreciate your wonderful comments always.

Gary- thanks once again, I do appreciate your comments. Ahhhh yes the Great Lakes offer some very atmospheric presence with the high and low pressures meeting creating turbulent weather.
