Amethyst Dragon

This is a piece I posted last year in mixed media, but this seemed like a fitting place for it. It's the 2nd in a series of 4 so far and is about 22x32 without the base. The color in this picture is not that great.

Re: Amethyst Dragon

I like how you've framed it. What an interesting and unique piece, very cool. What mediums did you use?

Re: Amethyst Dragon

The panel is cheap foam core which was a mistake really. I was planning on just practicing with texture and had the foam core in my stack of substrates, but it wanted to be something, haha. I built up most of the texture with palette knives using joint compound, then spray painted it black, which caused the paper to lift up in places but I liked the effect. The dragons head and wing were made from air dry clay and the color is a mix of heavy body acrylics and iridescent acrylics. The base is decking lumber with bolts holding the panel off the surface. Here is a close up of the dragon's head:

Re: Amethyst Dragon

That's impressive that the foam core held up.

Very cool close up!
