Albany Western Australia

Albany was an old 'Whaling Town' until whaling was outlawed in the mid 70's.

Although it is probably better known for being the departure port to Gallipoli on the Turkish Peninsula for the ANZACS during World War 1 -[Australian and New Zealand Army Corps]

''Albany Western Australia'' - Oil on Canvas - 18'' x 36''

''Hillside Homes Albany'' - Oil on Canvas - 12'' x 16''

''Distant Inlet'' - Oil on Canvas - 20'' x 30''

Those are some beautiful paintings. I really like the 1st and 3rd paintings. They have an interesting atmosphere to them.

Three nice paintings. The Kangaroos in the third gives it that extra little 'tickle'.

Ps I did a painting of the Whaling station in operation for a book on Factory Ships. Do they still have the old Catcher and museum?.

Re: Albany Western Australia

Another fantastic trio, Michael. I think the first is wonderful: the hazy distance, the myriad of suggested detail and the assertive foreground. I am sure that is a very meaningful vista for many families and your painting is a super representation of it.

Now, I think I may have a penchant for two. I love the abstraction, the bold brushstrokes and the red roofs.

In Distant Inlet I love the sky, the sense of distance, the bright, sloping fields and, of course, the little kangaroos!

It is such a shame that the shrink-to-fit requirements of Wet Canvas mean we can never fully appreciate a large painting on here.

Re: Albany Western Australia

The third follows a common theme of yours and is well done. It is probably my favorite of this group.

That said, I am interested in the new direction of the first and the second. I like the idea of painting where we live, seeing beauty in familiar places.

This has been a enjoyable group to view. Gary

Re: Albany Western Australia

I really like that first one - great, sweeping view of the town from beyond. The second is a nice slice of "everyday life," and I enjoy the vantage point in the 3rd one, looking out from a hill to the water beyond. Nice!

Re: Albany Western Australia

How beautiful, I can see kangaroos in the second very lovely painting. Interesting how adding the roos makes the painting even more beautiful. I am wondering why you have painted the big vista, was it for a commission? I feel sure the challenge was very exciting to do! Excellent perspective.
