Untitled - A Santa Fe Courtyard Garden

This is the second small painting in my Spring/Summer series -

A number of years ago, I came across a painting entitled A Quite Corner by Charles Harold Davis (1882) - It was a scene of an Italian courtyard with a woman tending her garden ... the painting captivated me ... it was such a peaceful scene and I have always wanted to try my hand at it - Thus, I decided to include this attempt in the series I am doing this Spring and Summer -

However, I wanted the painting to reflect a Southwestern atmosphere - Therefore, I have modified the original ... the structure, garden setting and the woman ... in order to achieve my desired goal - I hope I have pulled it off -

Painting: Oil on canvas glued to hardboard, 8 x 10; Palette: Yellow Ochre, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Italian Green Umber, Ultramarine Blue and Cremnitz -

Comments and suggestions always welcome -

Thank you for viewing - Hud

P.S. - I see that the large window I added is not quite right with regard to perspective ... I will have to change that -

Has an "old" look to it. Very nice work! Would look great in an antique gold frame!

Richard: Thank you - You are correct ... it would look good in an old antique gold frame -

In fact have several that I have collected over the years, so need to pick one out - Thanks for mentioning -

I think you've portrayed that sense of peacefulness in your rendition, Hud. I really like the softness of the woman's face. She looks content and serene. I agree with Richard - it does feel old-world, which is ideal for this scene. Very nicely done!

Kay: Thank you very much -

I am pretty much pleased with it ... have made the corrections with the large window ( it looks much better now ) - I framed it it an old gold antique frame I have and hung it in my studio -

Again, thanks for your comments and I appreciate your viewing -

Beautiful, peaceful and southwest in feel. The frame sets it off. Just lovely.
