Stormy morning

The weather here is bitterly cold, went to a castle down in Aberdeenshire with my husband after visiting a gallery. Haven't felt so cold in ages, we were determined to get our walk in around the castle grounds, saw a lovely bluebell wood too, so pretty. This is a very small oil painting of a stormy morning by the sea. Thank you for your comments Caroline.

Re: Stormy morning

Juicy expressionistic work ... lovely bold strokes - a river and waterfall
suggested besides the sea. Lovely work.

Lovely work Caroline! The foreground in this one really is fantastic as well as your sky.

Re: Stormy morning

Another wonderful work, Caroline. When you feel cold up there, just remember that weather seems to be your inspiration to produce fantastic pieces of art: what would you paint if it was sunny all the time?

I love the foreground and that wild sky - can I see a little birdie or is it just my imagination which is stirred by your lovely works?

Re: Stormy morning

A very emotional painting, and the use of black is interesting.

Wow Caroline! This one hit me like a ton of bricks - in a good way! You are so good at using strokes of paint to convey emotion and that to me is the ultimate goal of painting. The weight and energy of that stormy sky is palpable!

Re: Stormy morning

I can really feel that defiant, cold storm raging away - the added warmth in the sky is a reminder to the cold that, although cold now, spring will certainly come. Beautiful painting Caroline

Re: Stormy morning

Thank you John, interesting to hear what you see in the painting!

Hi Wes, Thank you!

Hi Heather, today was actually a lovely day of sunshine and much warmer thanks! Thank you for your comment!

Hello Bizzie, yes I agree and I do love wild storms very much, it was just that I felt chilled to the bone yesterday and miles away from the sea too!! Thank you for your comment! It does look like a bird on the shore though it is an accident!

Hi Oldnmartist thank you for your comment! I use chromatic black by Gamblin it is transparent and reflects light really nicely too.

Hi Donna, thank you for your comment. So glad you like the painting, your words always encourage me to keep going with the palette knife work.

Well spotted Richard it was actually painted mostly with a big brush and only a bit of palette knife work! Thank you for your comment!

Thank you Ann for your comment, today it is nice and sunny I think Spring has arrived!!

Re: Stormy morning

Even before I read your description, I thought that this painting looked like a return to winter. Either it is your color selection or telepathy. Gary

Re: Stormy morning

I love the strong, abstract sky with the obvious brush strokes! Very lively!
