Re: Lightning "OTRs" RAF Leuchars 87.

Agreed Neil.....it is a bit shabby. I was just in a hurry but I will fix it soon as I settle down. I'm quite chuffed with the left hand figure face which took only a few minutes. I need to have a session practicing faces and figures......
Still lots of little tidying up jobs to do. But I'm happy overall with it.
Ta Neil

Cheers John - the fig on the left crouched down looks good as does the seated one .

Ambitious work. But it's good practice. Keep at it!

Thanks Neil and Thomas.
The main point is that I really enjoyed doing this painting.
I keep looking closely at faces on tv for the shapes and colour to try and crack doing them
Ta again John

Hi John - I had a little play in Blender 3D with some figures - just a rough idea of how they might look for proportions .

Re: Lightning "OTRs" RAF Leuchars 87.

That's really good stuff Neil. Would be very useful for sorting out my figures. Will definitely have a further look at that software.

Anyway....

The good thing about using acryl gouache is that it's easy to zap out mistakes which I have done with the rogue figure. I have replaced them with a couple of smudgy figures in the distance.
Ta John

The revised version works John . The figure I used is a free download from somewhere in the Blender community . I think it's actually a boy but I resized it to adult proportions . I really like the way Acrylics let me zap mistakes .

Re: Lightning "OTRs" RAF Leuchars 87.

I’m not sure about the main figure. I feel he is not quite sitting right, maybe the collar thing on the missile hiding the bit where 'he connects'
Might just be me. I hate commenting before a job is finished. My Old Man used to say something like “Fools and Bairns shouldn’t see a job till it’s done”

Ta Jim.yep he is not perfect. ..but I'm too knacked at the moment to decide what to do. I've just added 2 figures which chuffed me up at the moment but I think my brain has been zapped.
I'm going to put this aside as 99% finished and look at my next painting which is going to be Phantom OTRS at Leuchars.
Ta for the comments as I do need pushing sometimes which is a good thing.

When were you at Leuchars? I live along the road At Auchtermuchty. I used to work for a Plant Hire Co. and was in and out of the place delivering plant when they were building the 'Hardened Shelters'

Re: Lightning "OTRs" RAF Leuchars 87.

A good Rule of Thumbto cater for perspective.
If using photographic reference - most photographers stand upright when taking photographs. Therefore the horizon and all that between horizon and viewer is equivelent to the eye level of the photographer - say an average of about5’7” +/-. So when including people who are standing - put their eyes on the horizon and put their feet wherever you want them to be and the net result will be people scaled correctly. I understand that there are tall/short - thin/fat folk but the planning protocol still works. Whilst this in itself does not cater for people not standing - you can still assess how large an image would have been were the individual stood and amend accordingly.

Re: Lightning "OTRs" RAF Leuchars 87.

So eye levels should be roughly the same height on the canvas...I think..
