Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

Thank you Wendy. I am delighted you get a sense of what I hoped to portray!

Lovely effects achieved there in your works Dan.

Wendy, that is a very unusual, monochrome version of such a bright image. It has a super, almost ghostly appeal!

Wendy: I really love your sketch - so much punch packed into such a small space - I think it's awesome

Hi all,

thank you Wendy for hosting this month. So many attractive references.
After a long time being busy with non painting stuff, I found time again to join in here.

Foggy morning done in water colors in Arches paper (30x40 cm)

C&C always welcome

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

Good start with a challenge Matt. Photographing paintings is also a challenge and it takes some tries to find a setup that works well. To handle the different light situations when taking the photo I normally do a white balance with a photo editor after the transfer to the computer.

Bizzibee, your Giverny painting has an impressionistic feeling itself. Very beautiful and apt to the subject.

Peter, not only the changed colors are interesting, but also the texture of the plants.
The colors create a strong focal point.

Dan, the abstracted shapes of the waves and reflections in the water and of the stones in the mole are great. In the second you managed to capture the impression of velocity.

Wendy, I like your little charcoal sketch. It has good values and interesting shapes.

Esther

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

Thank you CaliAnn and Doug for your kind comments.

I am glad I did not forget how to handle my watercolors as I haven't touched them for several weeks. And they tend to be unforgiving.

Esther: You should join us in the watermedia challenge - lots of pics that I think would suit your style of painting that you would knock right out of the park

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

I've been a bit out of this month's challenge I'm sorry to say. Again! Too many other interruptions.

Wendy nice little charcoal sketch. (Pity the image as presented isn't bigger.)

Esther - I like the watercolour of the foggy scene, although the over-emphasized light-ray troubles me a bit.

Thanks for the comments on my effort Wendy, Esther and Carl.

regards - Peter

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

Sundiver, thanks for hosting and for the wonderful selection of inspirational reference photos.

Matt, welcome to the challenges! Great work on the drawing. That scene is deceptively difficult to draw (I also did that one). And you followed up by a great painted version. Nice fluid brushwork.

Oh my Bizzibee. Love the impressionist vibe and loose control you exhibited here. Lovely.

dewarp, love the colors and the fluid approach to the fluid subject. The swirling look really adds. Nice.

SoCalDan, you are really good with that phone. Nice work on both; very well drawn.

Sundiver, yeah, like Bizzibee says, it has a ghostly look that's really cool. Nicely drawn.

Esther, that is incredibly lovely. Nicely painted, love the distant trees.

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

I am late getting my own painting in this time because I had a death in the family and did not work on anything for a couple of weeks. My older sister had been sick for a while (reoccurring of cancer) and we suspected that she wouldn't beat it this time.

I became inspired to dedicate this one to her and I painted her as a figure crossing the bridge. There's some photo glare on the left, which is darker in real life. Acrylic on stretched canvas, 9x12 (I think). C&C always welcome.

Re: May 2019 Landscape Challenge

Neat job on the bridge Dorrart. The warmer tones on the stone is a definite improvement over the original's grey.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

regards - Peter
