Thanks, Hud and Richard. I'm starting to remember how to paint. We had fun.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ April

Hi everyone, just a little news. So I went to the meeting in Dallas, then went home with all the new tips and hints. I contacted the foundry in Loveland, CO., and started to get a few pieces (waxes) cast from my molds to send up there. I will drive to Santa Fe on Thursday and leave 2 sculptures with them, and they will bring them back in metal in 4-5 weeks. (It is a kind of Santa-Fe to Loveland shuttle service for artists in Santa Fe because Shidoni went under). I am buying some new wax and clay from a place in Loveland because it was recommended. They do not like the clay I am using because it has sulfur in it. Sulfur reacts with silicone and so the rubber molds are weaker. I did not know that. And lastly, I was invited to view (not be in) a show that will include some of the Dallas artists down in Lubbock at the Texas Tech museum "Artists of the Llano Estacado." Since I am one of them, I want to see how to get into the "club" for next time, if there is a next time.

All and all joining this organization looks like it will be the best thing for my career that I have done so far. I should have done it years ago.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ April

Hi everyone!

Hi Hud. Thank you - I only see them for a short time in the spring. I suppose they can't compete with the dozens of goldfinches out there at the feeder. I hope you finches arrive soon. They're beautiful birds.

Hi Jo. Thanks for the nice comments. I love your painting! That looks like a wonderful, serene spot to linger and create. So glad you're painting again!

Hi Richard. Hope you're enjoying nice weather and that it's not too hot or muggy yet.

Hi Katy. I am glad you're finding your participation in that organization to be worthwhile. That's excellent news!

I can't resist sharing my latest drawing commission now that it's gotten to my clients. It was an honor to draw this little cutie, Bailey. It's an 8x10 scratchboard colored with Ampersand inks. It was a fun commission, though a tad bittersweet because while I was drawing this over winter, we lost our own beagle, Simon, at almost 13 years old. We sure miss our beagle, and hope to find another soon.

My clients were very happy with this, which is the greatest reward of all. Hope you all don't mind my sharing this here.

Katy, great to get some "good" in your life and enjoy what you are doing. The bronzes we have were done at the the Shidoni Foundry, sad it is gone. A friend was the sculptor. Nice memories.

Jenna, awwwww, so sweet. More good memories. You are super good at scratchboard. Applause.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ April

Yeah it is sad about Shidoni. I went to Santa Fe. Since I am not rich, and not looking to buy art, it just looked like a self-involved tourist town. I used to go there as a teenager. Now, all the buildings are the same color. I would not live there if it was free. On the way, there are big buildings of tourist junk. Clines Corners and so on. Got tired of that kind of stuff in the army. But, I did have a Lottaburger. Those were the best burgers and I can say they are still the best burgers. The high point of the trip. I am going to Lubbock Sunday, now I am looking specifically for Lotta Burgers. I am getting there before the art show so that I can get a Lottaburger (no chili).

Great scratchboard Jenna. Too.

Love your pet portrait Jenna!

Katy, so good to hear you are making progress. I'm not sure Lubbock has Lotta Burger. I was included in the Llano Estacado show a few years ago, sold nothing, and realized all the big money donors were there...huge oils won out over all other media. Let us know how it turns out.

I checked google maps. There are about 5-6 in both Lubbock and Amarillo. It seems strange there is not one where I am, considering there is a college here. You would think.

I am not "In" the show, meaning I do not have work in the show. I will try for next year maybe, as I have several pieces coming out this year. The big show to work towards is the sculpture show in Loveland CO. Lots of $ goes to that show, and many people totally sell out of their inventory. As for the "Huge oils," I am sure that people have heard me say (till I am blue in the face) that "big" art sells. Houses (especially the houses of people with $) have big walls to fill, and if they are not buying for themselves, they are buying for their "corporate HQ" offices.

I will tell you all about my experiences with Lottaburger after Sunday!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ April

I was told people have to receive a formal invitation for that LE show. There are several almost mandatory events one should attend in order to "be seen", and I did not want to drive 200 miles round trip to do their social activities before the show ever opened...so only went to the opening. You're probably right about the corporate office art. The Colorado show sounds like a better venue for you.

Uh-oh, no Lottaburger in Lubbock. Google Maps substituted Whataburger instead. Not the same.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ April

Mmmmm, Lotaburger! My favorite. Love it with the green chile. We have a Whataburger in Bastrop, TX. It is good but not quite the same. Lotaburgers are still grilled when you order them. I can smell it cooking. Guess I'll get one in July......sigh.
