WIP- Cavalier on Pastelmat

Hi folks, Not my first cp painting but my first cp painting on pastelmat. I have done a couple pastel paintings on it but since cps are my true love, I wanted to try them since I have heard such glowing reports of cp on pastlemat. Well at first I wasn't so sure, I couldn't get the coverage I like, I hate leaving any white dots of the paper. But I could see white dots on the paper and I had added loads of layers. I used watercolor pencils to get some underpainting but didn't want to over do that as I had never used that method before. So next I decided to bring out the big guns....solvent. It worked well for getting the coverage I wanted. Then I thought I would finish off with the Brush and Pencil's titanium white with touch up texture for the flyaway hairs. I normally don't apply the touchup texture mixture til the whole painting is finished but wanted to try it early just to see how it went. I am feeling better about this now. Size 7x9.5 light grey pastelmat with Prismacolor pencils. Ref. from Pixabay.

Comes down to trial and error with new supports but it looks likes it's working out fine for you. Love the intensity of your colors.

Looking great! Love those eyes! I have just bought my first pad of pastelmat myself and will be using it for my next piece.

Finished - Cavalier on Pastelmat

I am calling this cutie finished. Done on 7x9.5 light grey pastelmat paper with Prismacolor pencils. A little titanium white with touch up texture for highlights and whiskers. Panpastels for the blanket. Ref. from Pixabay. I call it "Sweetness".
