Re: Scavenger Hunt #571: Jan 4 - 12

Scatty - Nice job. Sheep is funny. Part of a collection?

Paul - Nice sketch. My favorite non-alcoholic beverage. Actually caffeine is my drug of choice.

2 - new year resolution - sketchbook and pencil to represent doing more art.

Keep sketching
Joe

Joe great New Years resolution and nice sketch. We have a common New Years resolution, I have been misfocused lately and trying to get back on track...

Ai - Thanks for the list. WOW...11 item sin one colorful sketch!! You are giving Jeanne competition. Love the sketches from your weekend. Impressive work on the sketch of the museums and like others said it worked out well that you couldn't add color. The temple sketch is really nice...would love to sketch something like that.

Jo - I will have to check out your friend when I have some spare time. Quick look told me I would like her work.

Paul - The King!! Nice! I like your still life with the bottle of wine, etc. You are really rolling along with the house, colorful coffee can and coffee pot.

Joe - Those cans make such good subjects. Nice shading on it. Good resolution to get sketching...something we all think about.

Kat - Cute animal. I didn't know your sister did pottery...you have an artistic family.

1 - multiple structures (sub for structure with multiple pillars) - watercolors (Sketched at our NYC Urban Sketchers holiday party on Sunday.)
2 - have to have for a good time (good view for sketching) - watercolors and ink (also done at the party)

The good thing about an urban sketchers party is that nobody minds if you sketch them. We all sketched for a few hours and then socialized in this room with such an awesome view.)

3 - front entrance - watercolors

Re: Scavenger Hunt #571: Jan 4 - 12

Paul, thanks, and yes please, I'll have a coffee, 😋 ...neat sketch...
Joe, thanks, and I don't have an intended collection, but I do seem to have a few sheep scattered about the place...🙃 . Nicely done pencil and pad too. Do more art is my resolution too, but I'm already falling by the wayside, on account of our new puppy...🐶
Joan, thanks, I love the skyscrapers, very well done, looks like your urban sketchers are a great group, I always enjoy your watercolours. We are an arty family, four sisters and we all paint and pot, it's such a joy when we get together.
Ai, thanks...

Re: Scavenger Hunt #571: Jan 4 - 12

Well, I'm still a bit foggy in the head, but here goes.

Paul, love the Maxwell House and the coffee maker. They do go together and I'll serve up some. Hopefully see you in the Boston area some year down the road.

Scatty, what a cute little ram/sheep. Fun.

Joe, great job on the sketchbook. I'm smiling.

Joan, your urban sketches are outstanding. I like the folks and the way you did the background.

I went out on the porch, it is about 52 degrees this morning, no wind. Big book with a Micron 01.

Number 1, front entrance - my studio through the left window.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #571: Jan 4 - 12

Paul and Scatty - We all slip. Key is to pick up a pencil or brush and keep creating!

Scatty new puppy is not an excuse. He/she is your newest model!

Joan - love the sky line sketch. Now as to the group in a room with a view. Isn't that cheating in plein air? You do do people well .

Jo - Nice sketch. OH..and props for going out in the cold to do it unlike some who plein air from rooms with a view.

Thanks to all for the kind comments,

Keep sketching
Joe

Re: Scavenger Hunt #571: Jan 4 - 12

Hi all!

Finally had time to work on sketching over the last couple of weeks (yay for being furloughed ). First up is the result of a sketching trip to our local art museum (plus side to living in a university town - we have both an art and a natural history museum). I’m working on figure drawing, so what better model than one who isn’t going anywhere and doesn’t need to be paid?

#1: metal. Sketch of Rodin’s “Faunesse debout (Standing Fauness)”, including photo of the sculpture. 8.5x11” in graphite pencil.

#2: nature near by. A sketching trip to the lake on the university campus two afternoons ago. The sky reflections on the water isn’t right, but I’m fairly pleased with it. 7x10”, gouache; except for the initial lines to get the land masses in, its directly in gouache.

#3: something I’m trying to learn/do better: figure drawing! Spent some time this afternoon at the natural history museum sketching; this is Lucy, the life-size skeleton in the kids’ Discovery Zone. I was still working on her mouth and teeth when I had to leave, but she’s done enough to share . Graphite pencil, same sketchbook as the fauness (#1).

Thoroughly enjoying everyone’s sketches! Lovely work from all.

Ai, the orchids are so nice. Great gesture.

Dawn, happy to see you. Furlough doesn't sound good, though. Super job on the bronze and skull. The landscape is excellent.

Thanks, Paul. It was nice to have still figures.

Ai, thanks. Lovely lines to your orchids!!!

Jo, thank you. Knock, knock...let is into your studio. Hope you are feeling better.

Kat, thanks. I have 2 sisters that I sometimes paint/sketch with. It is rare when we can get together since we live in different states.

Joe, thank you. Sometimes the urban sketchers take the easy way out...or is it in??? lol

Dawn, sorry about the furlough but you look like you are using the time off well. Nice museum sketches. Great job on Lily's skull.
