Normally you'd probably be right, Bev... but that's a black wool, light-absorbing rug on the floor and the white sock is being hit by light from the other window (off camera). I put the purple tones in there just for fun, so that probably leads a viewer to see the rest as shadow. It follows the photo pretty closely as to value, but it still does appear too bright. It used to be larger (camera lens does odd things when wide-angle), I took the size of the foot down as it looked off. Still not quite right, but you know how it is, I've lost that lovin' feeling and moved on.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and crit...

Here's an updated version for this one, I did end up changing the arrangement in the vase because the one that I did from imagination was frankly... horrible... and this one is real and hopefully better. Went out and gathered beech leaves last fall, the color was great. So, repainted that entire area and fixed issues with the foot a bit (I remember now, Bev!) so it is what it is at this point... :-)

Re: "Rainy Sunday Afternoon"

it's a beautiful work, I like it a lot,
everything is accurate and so well done, the expression of the face and the non-verbal language go even further,
that is, convey the thoughtful attitude in a way ...
beautiful
ps: it was already beautiful but with even more changes

Thank you Joe for the nice compliments! I didn't set out to make such a moody piece but it turned out that way. Expression and the colors helped.

Re: "Rainy Sunday Afternoon"

perhaps this evolution of things in progress is what sometimes helps make some works magical
in any case it is really beautiful,

happy Easter,
ps: wonderful works in signature
