Image distortion query

I've just had an image approved to go in the RIL, but when I go to look at it it is really distorted. I think it's something to do with aspect ratio. It is short and wide now instead of tall and thin. I posted it from an iPad. Any suggestions on fixing it? Not much use as it is unless it displays differently for others.

Ought to add, it's the purple anemone one.

Re: Image distortion query

I just checked, it is a beautiful photo but yes it is squashed a little vertically.

You can edit and replace or delete your image. If you can correct the picture you can replace it by clicking the edit icon below the picture in the RIL and upload the replacement.

Re: Image distortion query

A regular member can not change the aspect ratio - only RIL Moderators can do that.

I'll change it now for you.

In future, if you see something not correct with an upload, just send me or my fellow RIL Moderator, Charlie's Mum, a Private Message and we'll fix it for you.

So, I just adjusted your image.
Should be OK now.

Judy

Oops! Sorry Judy, I have been seeing the icons for so long now I forgot it is a mod privilege.

Re: Image distortion query

Thanks for your help both of you.
When I view the image now it comes up sideways!
Clearly loading from an iPad is not the way forward.
It will be a couple of weeks before I have access to a PC again to try and load it from there.
For those of us who are complete idiots with tech is there a list somewhere of things to change before loading so I don't do the same thing again? When I loaded this one it just all went through easily but the end result is unusable. I followed the instructions in the uploader as far as I am aware. But I've clearly missed something.

Re: Image distortion query

LOL! no problem Doug .... just don't do it again. :P

Oneneedlletoomany:
Are you saying that the image still looks sideways now on your iPad?
Even after I've fixed the orientation to be verticle?
It shouldn't.
Maybe refresh your iPad?

Unfortunately, I can't really answer your iPad questions because I don't use one - besides which, I'm a PC user.

Maybe Doug can answer that one?

J.

Re: Image distortion query

It looks fine now in the RIL.

The ipad is a mess when it comes to exporting images. They all have the same filename and irrespective of how they look on the ipad screen the iOs filing system remembers the orientation when they were first saved and uses that when you upload.

Re: Image distortion query

I've managed to get to a PC this morning. It looks fine when viewed here, just sideways and square when viewed on an ipad. Which is insane when that is the device that took the photo in the first place. We love technology!
I will attempt to upload something from the PC next. Although not right now as I'm supposed to be working......
Thanks so much both of you for all your help and suggestions. I'll get the hang of this one day. Perhaps.
