Has anyone in this forum purchased the new book, "Oil Painting with the Masters"? If so, could you please tell me what you think of the book. I am the author.

You have two extremely positive reviews on amazon, including the review (uploaded to amazon on Aug 5th 2014 ) for your book that amazon says was published on August 21st 2014, that says about their new hardcover that "Every time I pick up the book and look through it, I feel that I learn something new"

The review could have been a preview of the book. Let's wait and see.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

Amazon does state that it was published on August 21, 2014. However, that is a mistake. Many people preordered the book on Amazon and were pleased that it arrived early. The book was in stock at North Light Shop (the publisher) on July 29, 2014. Here is the link to the book at North Light Shop.

If you would like to preview a few pages in the book, check it out on Amazon.

I always meet early reviews with suspicion, the author's friends and family can write reviews too.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

Not due for release in the UK until 26th September.
Amazon are going to sell it a full retail price of £19.99 offering no discount which is a bit unusual.
Juliette Aristides 'Classical Painting Atelier' was £19.99 on publication day, but offered by Amazon for around £15 ( can't remember the exact price).

Possibly will be worth paying full price, but will have to wait and see.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

Today I did a Google search for reviews of "Oil Painting with the Masters" and was delighted to find this review by an artist named Jason Walcott. I have never met or spoken to this artist.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

I was sorely tempted to buy this book. I even posted my dilemma here in WC on the Oily Rag.

I looked long and hard at the samples on Northlight's newsletter page, and looked up some of the artists online, and your choices were exemplary. Like Jason Walcott, I decided that it was simply to thin a volume to cover enough on each artist.

Cindy, if you could have gotten this book published with three times the pages on each artist, whether it was 3 times more pages, or a third of the artists represented, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I don't have the means to attend workshops and retreats, a book like this truly brings the artist to me. I may buy it yet!

I would love to see Northlight publish fatter volumes than they do.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

I understand how you feel, but I was given a certain amount of pages to work with from the very beginning and an author must stick to the guidelines set out in the beginning by his publisher.

I am very pleased with the book, and feel that F+W Media/North Light Books did a wonderful job with it.

Jason Walcott gave Oil Painting with the Masters an A-. That's a pretty darn good rating.

If you have a Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million in your area, I suggest you stop by and see the real thing. After flipping through the pages, I believe you'll be on your way to the cashier in short order.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

I'll give it a look next time I am near a B&N (I live in a rural area).

A good deal of my hesitation is having to mail order a book mostly sight unseen --except for a few preview pages on Amazon- and finding out that there is nothing inside I didn't already know.

Re: New Book - "Oil Painting With The Masters"

Well Oil painting or Aboriginal Art paintings is not cup of tea, but I love watching various art forms. Last week I attended an exhibition and from there I bought 2 beautiful Aboriginal Art paintings for my drawing room. Everyone loved my choice.
