Re: THE ANIMAL INN - Our Chatroom for August/September/thru to December 2019

Yes, Joy, my sister can help me with anything I need to know, though the Amazon site has lots of help.

The Miss Fisher books are well written and definitely better than the to series. I watched the Miss Fisher's niece programmes not long ago. It looks as though it's set later than the other series, which is in the twenties. I enjoy looking up the locations and buildings and am just looking at the Hotel Australia, Pitt Street and Castlereagh Street in Sydney.

I walked to the Post Office to collect a parcel, having received an email to say it was ready, only to find that it hasn't been dellivered from the parcels' office (which is separate and in another part of town from the Post Office). I will have to try again this afternoon.

Re: THE ANIMAL INN - Our Chatroom for August/September/thru to December 2019

Hi everyone - having an awful time trying to get everything done before Christmas and as we are in Summer (and the height of the growing season) lots of work to do in the garden ....and why I planted vegetables I'll never know. Lawrence always did the huge vege garden and I did the the flower gardens.

And that's a laugh saying it's our Summer here in NZ...we haven't had Summer weather and have just experienced a severe weather front over all the South Island which has caused major flooding with all roads flooded and stranded 1,000 tourists on the West Coast and that number and more on the East Coast! Roads completely blocked by floods as rivers and Lakes are flooding! All those stranded people can't go South or North or anywhere at all until flood waters begin to recede! There's been landslips and slides that apparently went worldwide on tv and shown on USA tv.

However, way down here at the bottom of the South Island, we remain safe and dry BUT lost my Internet connection, the phone and all communication for a night and the next day also! Scary stuff to have no communication at all!

I think I know the "Miss Fisher Mysteries" tv series you are talking about.
I saw a Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries advertised on Kobo (I read my books on my Tablet) so I clicked on it and it certainly wasn't what I imagined it would be!!! Not the one the tv series is all about. It's called "The Fisher Files" and was sold as a Box Set of 3 books - written by Steve Higgs. I couldn't believe it at first, as I'ts a bit kind of "tongue in cheek" with people getting murdered all over the place, but it's well written....and hilarious! Just the book to have a real good laugh with, and not to be taken too seriously as there are bodies falling like flies everywhere, and no-one seems to care. I'm loving it and will certainly read more of this Patricia Fisher Detective Series!

Oh dear, Viv. I hope the troublesome weather doesn't affect you. It's strange to think you have your growing season now, as we come up to Christmas. Vegetables are a lot of work! I don't grow them any more.

I know what you mean about no communications. On the occasions I don't have an internet connection, I feel really shut in and alone.

I like hearing about new detective books, so thanks for that. I will look them up.

It's damp here but not cold. I walked Indy to the Park and bought a supply of his food and am resting now, coping with a sniffly cold.

Re: THE ANIMAL INN - Our Chatroom for August/September/thru to December 2019

You will have heard the news, which has flashed all around the world, that New Zealand's most active Volcano on White Island erupted at 2.11pm yesterday.

There were tourists on the island, as Tour Boats ferry tourist regularly to the island every day, to view the volcano. Although the volcano was being monitored there was no indication that it was ready to erupt.

So far: 5 confirmed dead, many injured and a group of 8 tourists missing. At this stage there is no hope for their survival. They are believed to be a multi-national party of tourists off a Tourist Ship which is docked at Tauranga
This is an ongoing emergency as the volcano has since then erupted another 3 times. It is considered too dangerous to land a rescue party on the island and helicopters and drones have picked up no signs of life from those missing on the island.

What awful news, Viv. Nature showing her strength, to human detriment.
