Security concerns on this site

I'm not sure where to post this, but why am I getting a security warning from my browser saying that the connection is unsecured and that login credentials can be stolen by hackers?

Re: Security concerns on this site

It's because this being an old site, we have an http connection not an https connection. When all the servers and search engines updated in recent years, they changed their preferences to sites with https so when you use any site that has an http, it will say the same thing.

It's a general notice sort of thing not, I get it myself and I ignore it.

Hopefully, the site will be transferred to new servers which use https in future.

Re: Security concerns on this site

Simple trick, go into the url, and change the http to https. Otherwise ignore it, its not really a security risk, someone just decided they wanted all websites to be secure.

Really a non issue, it just means what you are doing here is something which can be overheard, so when you post things to a public forum, a person who is in your ISP on one of the routers can read the message.

Or they could just read it, since it is a public forum.

That warning is an effort by google and the browser makers to get every site to use encryption, as that makes everything you do more private.

At the same time they have cookies, tracking beacons, javascripts that monitor and scrape everything you do and post. ( google analytics for example ) That is why when you look at an item on amazon, you see ads for that same item on facebook the next day.

Remember that EVERY email is sent in the clear, email by definition is not secure, and is relayed thru random servers on every message.

In other words, avoid doing things on the internet which cannot be public, don't use credit cards via email at all, and if you use passwords, don't use the same passwords here that you use at your bank. Assume you are not doing things in private, but in public, if it needs to be secret, don't put it on the internet.

Re: Security concerns on this site

A note about Google, and replacing your search engine: Yes, google tracks you everywhere and your information is used by them to sell advertising. There is a site, duckduckgo.com (which you can abbreviate to duck.com) which does what the google site does (searching), just as well, and does NOT track your searches or online moves.

If you adopted Firefox (the free browser created by programmers around the globe to keep your travels online secure--unlike the Windows or Time-Warner or google [Chrome] browsers), try adopting duck.com, too, for the same reason.

Looking forward to seeing WC on https. There was an announcement widely disseminated sometime ago (a year or so?) stating that users visiting sites using only http would henceforth be warned of the lower security.

Re: Security concerns on this site

Please note that WetCanvas does not even ask you for your real name. What you put and how much info you give in the public forums is absolutely up to you.

This subject has been clearly explained and as such this thread is closed. Thank you all for your comments.
