Ok…. so here I am again, Wolf #3. I thought I would be doing other things today, but surprise, here I am trying another wolf in the Minature Art forum. I’ll post some in process pics and colors in a minute. Thanks for looking.
Oh yeah, there wasn’t supposed to be a moon… then there ‘became a moon.’ Those were supposed to be snow flakes but maybe they make better stars.
I worked on wolf #2 a bit more but it never got any better.

January 6, 2018 at 3:45 pm #540104Here’s the paper… plus I Elmers’ glued it to a bit of my usual Canson Bristol Illustration board to make it nice and thick to work with . 2.5″ X 3.5″

January 7, 2018 at 5:24 am #540105Thanks Christel. It wasn’t what I was going for but at least it turned out. These tiny pics are difficult as I figured they would be. I usually work bigger than others in colored pencil because I think it’s easier. Maybe trying to do minis will improve my other, regular cp work.

January 7, 2018 at 7:19 am #540106Colored pencils are …
Fur coat:
Faber Castelle (FC) Cold gray IV (4), the lighter one
FC Cold Gray VI (6)
Not pictured Prismacolor (PC) 10% Cold Gray, not real helpfulFC Indigo… (pictured twice) a dark blue that didn’t sprite up bright blue when put on top of other colors, gets special mention. Also used that in sky… Indigo, then a dark gray on top, then Indigo again, on top of the gray
PC White.
Then I thought it wasn’t going to turn out.. so I broke out the Stabilo white. That really helped. There are many oil based colored pencils.. but the Stabilo White helps make pics look more like paintings and it can be shaded over with other colors after you apply it.

January 7, 2018 at 7:29 am #540107Other helpful colors:
Tiny bit FC black.
Sakura Gelly Roll pencil for the tiny hairs that stick off here and there
FC Strogelb Cream
FC Light Yellow Ochra
Last two were for the moon after Gray and Stabilo White had been applied, also lightly for moonlight reflections on the fur…
The darker yellow, tiny bit of gray and the darker yellow for eyeball.. the Gel Pen to make the light spot in the eye ball…tiny bit of that PC reddish Burnt Ochra to top it all off.. outline is the black…
Snow flakes or stars.. STabilo White like I showed already in Wolf 2 WIP… plus wetted it to make brighter dots.. then after they dried , went over them again with the white Stabilo… as I think unfinished snow flakes look tacky.

January 7, 2018 at 7:45 am #540109PPl ask me why I take so many pics… it’s because a lot of times I dont’ know what I’m doing, never done a successful wolf in ‘large land’ yet… so I look at it as it goes along and decide whether somethings working or not.. if it’s working and the pic looks better.. then I keep going on with that.. if not, I try something else… some other color… the last one is a photo because the scanner, while convenient is really old and doesn’t do what I do justice, really.

January 7, 2018 at 7:46 am #540110Wolf ref. photo actually had a lot of gray in it…. softened the eye outline here to match the rest of the pic with my Stabilo white.. added that tiny bit of Burnt Ochra to the eyeball.. smoothed over the snowflakes or stars with the dry Stabilo white Like I mentioned in the pencil pics.
Nose is Stabilo Black, probably a gray that I had in my pics.. dot of ink on the nose, smoothed over by Stabilo White.. then I strenthened the black with the FC Indigo blue to make it all fit into the pic better

January 16, 2018 at 4:30 pm #540102These are fantastic. Love the flakes and cold mist in the first.
I like the viewpoint of the second. I think that one looks good too.
