Wow impressive process. AND I can find 3 intermedite versions that I really like "as is".

And which of the final 2 versions is truer to color.

Re: Portrait WIP "Natalie"

Final version is last presented, after many more white layers.

I wish I didn't post this when I did. I was on my way out for the weekend, and decided to try to get it up here, hoping for comments when I got back. I underestimated time necessary to post all those pics and didn't get to comment at all before she was honking out front!

This was my first attempt at Karin Wells version of the 7 layer Flemish thingy. I studied it for a long time, was uber nervous, but went for it. Didn't get it quite right as you can likely tell. But it was educational and ultimately ~fun.

Thanks for the comment, tony.

FYI, I WAS Sye on here for the last year. Site issues wouldn't let me back on, so... now, I'm Sissal.

It's an "old masters" technique that I've been playing around with. You can check it out here: http://www.1art.com/tips.htm
or at Karin Well's site.

Beautiful work - beautiful subject. Is it my screen or did the "final" go from realistic colors to golden overtones? I like several of your WIP, including both of the final two. How was the drying time compared to what you were doing before with this new technique? Will you continue to use it?

Re: Portrait WIP "Natalie"

Thank you.

You know, the next to final was the one that was very golden-ed in real life, and the final version had more blues, whites and brights but I guess the camera didn't catch it, or else the dummied down pixels on our screens don't lend truth.

At any rate, yes! Even with the frustrating amount of drying time between layers, I will use a version of this when doing portraits from now on.
