Thought I’d finish the 66 plate car off in this one while I was waiting for the red one (see WIP elsewhere) to dry…
Please excuse crap photography, twas fairly dark – will get some better shots if I can get some daylight tomorrow. Now onto the Diner!

January 28, 2019 at 3:11 pm #742997Two things happened today – the brakes on my Peugeot failed, and I finally bit the bullet and renewed my Creative Suite subscription. The first thing meant an unplanned day’s holiday, which I used to get the Diner painting almost finished. The second means that I can tweak my pics in Photoshop again so they don’t look completely pants Here’s progress from today.

January 29, 2019 at 5:31 am #742994This great – really strong composition, nice contrast between the curves of the cars and the parallel lines of the buildings. I also like the light and the colors in the building. I do think the far trees on left and the curb line below it are too hard and flatten the image instead of it having depth. I realise that if you want to do hyper realism then you want everything sharp, no soft edges in the distance, but you could still convey distance by using color instead of softness – make the distant objects slightly lighter and with a blueish cast.

http://www.artallison.com/January 30, 2019 at 2:23 pm #742998Thanks Allison! Point taken about the background – I suppose I did my usual and painted what’s there I may have a look at this if time allows, although I’m on a tight schedule now as it needs to be finished this weekend (!)

February 2, 2019 at 2:30 pm #742999Other than a few tweaks…finished. Allison, consulted the owner and he was happy with the foliage so I’ve left it alone Going to have it photographed properly next week ready to hand it over to its owner on Sunday!

February 2, 2019 at 3:45 pm #742991Incredible finish Anth. Very highly detailed and vibrant. All those reflections are very well handled indeed. Thanks for sharing it with us, such a feast of reflections to enjoy!
- Delo DelofashtFebruary 3, 2019 at 2:00 am #743002It’s perfect! The warm reflection is what makes it pop for me, it serves as a gorgeous contrast against cool-looking and cool-colored (pun intended) cars.
A question, did you paint the warm glare straight like that or did you do some glazing to enhance it?

February 3, 2019 at 11:32 am #743000Thanks Delo, DMArtist7! I tend not to use glazes so what you see is painted in one go…the Diner was a lot more work than I anticipated as the more I looked at the reference image, the more detail I saw! I’ve actually simplified some of it and it still took days and days to complete.
