Re: Richardson handrolled v.s. handmade pastels
Very interesting topics! I know we've strayed from the original thread a bit, but this is too much fun. Tracy, I feel exactly the same way you do about groups and competition and how it can really get out of hand. You make perfect sense to me. Although I have drawn and painted all my life and was a fine arts major in college, I have always stayed away from the art world for those very reasons, concentrating on commercial art to pay the bills and have been perfectly happy. I never had any desire to go to show openings and be a part of all that pretentious garbage, so I happily stayed away from it and painted for myself in my spare time. The very idea that you can judge art is ridiculous, isn't it? So I'm not at all interested in having paintings in a show and winning awards and all that jazz. I just want people to see them and to sell them once in a while. Unfortunately you need to network a little in order to get them out there, so I am kind of conflicted. I guess since I'm getting older it doesn't effect me as much as it used to. If I was a youngster and was treated the way you were by those photography folks, I think I would have gone ballistic! That kind of thing I have no time for, and if I see anything like that going on with any art group I'm involved with I will make a hasty exit. I haven't so far, but I totally get where you are coming from. Always stay true to your heart and your convictions, and you will always come out ahead in the long run! Thanks for sharing.
