Ghost City

I saw this village while we were traveling from Salzburg, Austria to Munich, Germany. When I started this painting, I drew the image and put masking fluid on the church and trees so I could freely splash on the blue paint for the sky, but inadvertently dripped some masking fluid right down the middle of the page. Impatient to start painting, I wiped off the excess fluid before it was completely dry grinding fluid into the paper. When I applied the blue paint, the fluid streak stood out as a dark vertical line in the sky. What to do? Not wanting to start over, I decided to make a shadowy city in the background with the annoying streak as a large church spire. When you have lemons . . .

Re: Ghost City

Nice save, Tim! I think I like this background better than a solid blue sky.

Re: Ghost City

...a style all your own. I really like the technique of this interpretation. Nice palette also...

Re: Ghost City

Fine work Tim and immediately recognized!
I believe it is the church of Anger, a very dominant
building on the highway. Interesting your alienation
with the shadows.

Re: Ghost City

Funny story...I have done that before with masking fluid but wasn't clever enough to find a good fix. I like it.
