Cougars on the brain

Morning.

It's taken me a couple of hours to paint this. Oil on Fredrick's pregessoed canvas. This is about a 4x4"

I'm just practicing getting ready to go to the conservation department to paint from real life. I want to be able to capture the cougar they've got on canvas and have it look something like a cougar.

C&C welcomed.

Have a great day,
Don

Very nice! I love the almost monochromatic feel of it! And I certainly can appreciate that this guy is only 4x4!

Now that is up close and personal! You really got a great feel to this piece, and the cougar is gorgeous and looks dangerous. Well done!

Re: Cougars on the brain

Kay - Thank you for the nice comment.

Sean - I layed in the basic colors with a #4 flat, then used smaller rounds to finish him off. I'm going to have to order a new script liner. I didn't get the results I was after on his whiskers.

Jenna - Thanks! Up close was what I was after.

Lola - Thank you for looking and commenting!

Donald

Perfect coloration, Donald! You might also try a palette knife for those very thin strokes like on whiskers. You sometimes have to come back and modify one edge, but you can get some sharp crisp lines and still have it 'painterly" that way.!

Re: Cougars on the brain

Deb - I need to use the pallet knife more. I tend to use it just for mixing paint. I forget that it will make nice straight lines.

Catherine - Thanks, but it is finished. It was just a practice piece to help get me ready to paint one from life, plien air, probably with people watching EEK!
