Cougars are a rare sighting here and numbers are under increased pressure due to loss of habitat . These big cats prefer to stalk their prey and like elevated vantage points which could be another reason a sighting is quite uncommon. This acrylic painting on masonite captures a large cougar stopping to take a drink of water….however always on guard.
This photo is a Pixabay reference. (12 by 15 approx. acrylic on panel)

Beautiful. You have caught that alertness well. We have cougars on here as well. I have never seen one, but there are often signs posted in our regional parks that they have been spotted, and they occasionally have wandered into the city.

Colin. Thanks very much for the comments. Yes I here they are an elusive animal that are a rare sighting . Once in awhile you hear about encounters but for most part these big cats avoid the public.

It looks like she paused in her drinking because she saw something. Good pose.

Everything else being equal, I would rather be in the painting zone.
